Default what does this mean

Hey guys today I looked at a camaro z28 for sale. When i first started it the rpm and mph guage both tacked out and then came back down, but the motoe didnt rev up that high. Also the car sounded like it had a small cam(maybe or maybe not). Is that jumping of the mph and rpm guage normal, or is it because of a tune?(someone told me when some cars get tuned, they do that sometimes)

Was the car a '99? I beleive there is a TSB on '99 LS1 F-bodies for issues with the dash cluster needles maxing out on startup.

Seeing a lot of posts on this lately with the colder weather on the '99 models. Bet the trip odo is also resetting to zero. All it takes is for the battery voltage to be low in most cases. Here's the TSB #99-08-49-009.

I have a tune in my 02 2500hd and the cluster does weird things. Gear selection is off and the tach moves alot when the key is on and the eng is off. Remove the tune & it is all fine. Just to let you know that tunes can also create problems.

My 99 never does that, it only happend once on a near dead battery and a fried alt. Other then that i never had issue's with my guages.
