what flexplate for a ls1/turbo350?
working on a little project where we are mating a turbo350 to a 5.3truck motor. i called precision about a converter and the said something about me needing the pilot extention. anyone know what flexplate i should use? the trucks have 2 available. the 4l80e one wich is prety much flat and needs a crank extention and the 4l60e wich is flared a little and needs no crank extention. not sure if the cars use a 3rd type or the same as one of the truck ones.

Precision can make the TC with a longer pilot so you should not need any crank extension or spacers of any kind using a 4l60 type flexplate. When i bought my Neal Chance TC this is what they did for me. I know a couple people running the the precision TC's with the longer pilot as well so i know they can do it .

a 5.3 flex plate has the stock 10.5" pattern on it(i used this set up when i had a 2001 5.3 in my s-10), you will need the hughes crankshaft spacer also,
or do like i have now on my 6.0/th350 s-10, i used the 6.0 flat flexplate and the factory 6.0 crankshaft spacer and bolts, this flexplate has the larger th400 bolt pattern on it, if you are using an aftermarket th350 10" converter most of them have the th350 and 400 bolt pattern on the converter already
my set up looks stock, 6.0 flexplate, 6.0 spacer and bolts, and a 10" th350 convrter with the bolts in the larger th400 position all bolts right together

I run the TCI flexplate (way beefier than stock) which has the same alignment as the stock 4l60e plate that is contoured a bit. My personal preference is to not have any spacers, and if your buying a new TC anyway, just have one built for the conversion (longer snout instead of spacers), thats JMO anyway . I know PI, yank, NC, etc can do them.
BTW, you should only need a longer pilot if you space the TC away from the flexplate, at least an LS1 type TC. No spacers = longer snout into the transmission.

yes a standard th350 10" converter, you dont need the extended pilot if you use the stock 6.0 crank spacer and bolts or the hughes press in spacer
