Default Swap cam or 1.85 rockers for AFR heads?

I recently put in a Comp Cams XR265HR cam. Quite a nice gain, but I want more now and am purchasing a set of AFR 205s milled .024 to 62cc with the Cometic .040 head gasket.

Here's the question - Do I just add 1.85 roller rockers to the 212/218 .522 .529 114 cam to bring the lift to .568 .576? Duration is increased some also, but I do not know how to calculate.

Or change the cam to the Tony Mamo 224/228 581 581 114?

Suprisingly, both AFR and Comp Cams recommended just doing the 1.85 rockers and calling it a day. I do all the labor and the cost of the rockers is the same as the cam pretty much.

'99 Camaro SS - 4.10 gears with studs/girdle, Spohn torque arm, QA1 adjustables in the rear, Billstein HD front, Eibach Pro springs, LS6 manifold, ASP pulley, HP tuners, Dynatech Headers, comp 918 springs, hardened pushrods, 13" ZO6 brakes (crossdrilled/slotted),etc.

Any feedback appreciated.

I would swap rockers but they are more expensive than a new cam. Look http://www.slponline.com/view_product.asp?P=50185...

I think I'm going to do the cam to make sure I get the max duration. It just makes you think when the cam mfg. is saying don't do it.

Since you will be running good dual springs with the AFR 205s, you might as well get a cam with more duration, better LSA and more lift already ground in. Are you running cats and does your car need to pass a sniffer test?

I am in Florida so there aren't any emissions tests. I have bolt in off road pipes on now just to get an accurate A/F measurement. I plan on putting the cats back in just to get rid of the hydrcarbon smell after everything is back together and tuned (Hp tuners). Thanks.

I guess the next question is
how do you like the idle/driveability of your 212 cam?
mind you, the 224 is a great match for the 205's. but, their is a big difference in the way the 2 cams affect other areas besides HP. now, just about everybody on this forum will say 224 is a baby cam.....so if the 212 seems too mild, by all means get the 224..(the higher lift rockers won't affect the idle near as much as the larger cam will)

My thoughts exactly....and a higher rocker ratio tends to invite valve control issues which is also undesirable.

Swap the cam....

Rockers would probably work good with that cam, but it would be cheaper to do a cam and you would get better results.
