Haven't seen anything on it personally. I would think it woulb basically be like swapping to a TH-350/400 though. My 78 Z I went from a 4 speed to a Th-350 then to a PG and never had to mess with anything. The I put the motor in my S-10 that had a TH-350 and later put the PG in and still no problems. I wouldn't think it would be much of a hassle but I haven't tried. Would like to know the outcome though as I have 4 PG's laying around needing to get used.

LS1Tech Moderator "NEXT" has one in his and there are a few others. Most of them are big adder, lightweight cars that don't see any street use.

Why would you want a 2 speed Transmission for street/strip use? Most people would recommend you go TH400 or 4L80E. Both transmissions can handle running 9's no problem and offer 3rd gear (the 4L80E has a 4th gear).

I think driveability and MPG would be much better on the street with either of those two transmissions.

Gas Mileage would be better with the 4l80 since you would have overdrive. It would be exactly the same with a th400 or Glide since top gear on each one is exactly the same 1:1. The big differance is the first gear ratio and having enough power to leave hard with the softer PG 1st gear. I had good luck with mt th400 when I was making 500-600whp but I'm now leaning towards a glide since I'm looking over 800whp.

Thanks for the input. My car is a street/strip driver now but after this summer with my new mods I'll probably be seeing 600+ and in the next two years it'll pobably be a strip car only. I dont want to blow too much money on changing/rebuilding trans. every year, so why not get the good stuff while I can.

Darren,
I used to think the same thing about installing a Glide in a Street/Strip car, until a friend of mine tried it. Now I wholeheartedly recommend the Glide for many S/S cars. My friend had a very clean '84 Z28 that he installed a N2O LT1 engine into. He smoked the 700R4 right away. The only thing that he had sitting around was a Powerglide and 10" N2O converter that was the spare for his EZ Street car. He installed it and drove it (the very next day) from Miami, FL to Atlanta for the NMCA race. Unfortunately, he didn't have time to change his rear gears. He had a 2.73 IIRC. It slow off the line, but ran consistant 12.0s at around 120 mph.

I've done several S/S cars since then with the correct converter and rear gear. The performance is amazing and you still have a 1:1 high gear for cruising. They're very reliable, super light, and best of all, there's only one shift to make.

I would still go with a 4L80E. Electronically controlled shifts, OD and they are capable of going well into the 9's. For single digit strip car I wouldn't hesitate to go with a glide. But for a street driven car I would probably look at the 4L80E.

Lightweight and no street use??????

3540 raceweight here and i drive my car everyday with a Glide.... Rain or shine....
Freeway , what ever.....
I dont even feel it......
Rossler Glide, Neal Chance Converter, Strange S60 w/ 3.54 rear gear, and 325/50 (28") Street tires...
For a BIG HP car esp. a Turbo car the 1.80 1st gear i have is awsome at the track.....
I see the response made above all the time about the extra gear in a TH400... i just laugh
the 2.76 1st gear in a Th400 is hard on the launch for alot of cars.....
I origally wanted a 400 in my car but after talking with carl Rossler a Glide was chosen for many reason's.......
Another reason to build a glide is it can be built to handle the same amount of HP as a 400 for almost 1/2 the price.....
Plus its lighter and takes less HP to use...
If ya really need an O/D unit in a Trans then Just get the Gear Vendor Overdrive Unit and you can have a .70 O/D for about $2k and there rated at 2500HP.

Wouldnt a 2 speed tranny make for a VERY wide ratio jump from first to second, necessitating the need for an engine with a wide powerband?

Or is that what a 5K RPM stall is for?
