I am going to be pulling the tired 305 sb out of my 84 K10 pickup. I want to keep my budget around $3000 for everything (motor, tranny rebuild, fluids, everything). The truck is a work horse. It is always loaded or towing my trailer (12' enclosed, about 4000lbs). I want a good torque cam and its gotta sound good.

The new setup so far goes as follows:
350 long block - http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?part=NAL%2D10067353&FROM=MG

Edelbrock performer intake
Edelbrock carb (from old motor)
700r4 tranny (going ot get a rebuild)
coated headers (just ordered, current ones have a golf ball size hole in one of the primaries)
dual exaust (on the truck already)

Here are the cams I am looking at, also will I need springs to go with any of these cams?

comp cams 12-235-2
1,000-5,200 RPM 210 int./218 exh 0.447 int./0.462 exh. lift

comp cams 12-239-3
1,300-5,600 RPM 218 int./226 exh 0.462 int./0.480 exh. lift

comp cams 12-206-2
1,200-5,200 RPM 212 int./212 exh. 0.440 int./0.440 exh. lift

i would say go with the 12-235-2 i think that would be your best bet for a work truck either that one or the last one you listed

The cam guys at comp or howards usually give great advice. I usually let them run the specs and pick something for me. Good luck, sounds like a cool project.

I've seen some good torque numbers from the cc503. It is 224/230 .503/.510 112 LSA.

I just looked at the link to your longblock.......8.5:1 means you'll have to choose one of the smaller cams I guess.

I would like to get a little higher compression motor but for the money I can't go wrong. I think I am going to go with the 12-235-2.

After the motor and tranny are squared away I am thinking about a 14 bolt dually rear end. short bed dually ftw

A cam that is working great for my cousin's work truck 350 is as follows:

Adv Duration 280/280
.050" 208/208
109* LSA
105* Int centerline
.448" Int/Exh lift with 1.6 rocker arms
4-7 swap firing order

The cam and the lifters were only $190 plus shipping.

find a roller shortblock and add some vortec heads or just a vortec longblock... add a lt1 or lt4 roller cam(they are dirt cheap i paid 10 bucks for mine)
