Default 408 w/TH350??

How long do you guys think my TH350 will hold up behind my 408 nitrous motor? Supposedly it is built to handle 650hp. Should I think of going with a different tranny?

well it depends on how well it's built... if it's supposedly good for 650h.p., i wouldn't put more than 600 through it to be on the safe side... that said, i don't see much room to spray on top of a 408.

it also depends on how heavy the car is. if you have a light car then it's easier on the drivetrain to get the car moving.

i would just move to a TH-400 or (if you have the funds) a 4l80e.

sell the TH350 to someone with less power while the it's still in good condition.

Yeah, that is what I thought about doing. Selling it while it is basically a new tranny. The tranny is well built, but the 408 is built for alot of spray. My car only weighs 2967 as it sits right now. I'll have to think about that. I have a friend that has a glide that I could get at a good price...hmm

The weak link in a TH350 is a the sprag. It needs to be upgraded to a stronger aftermarket sprag. After that, high gear clutches are likely to slip. A good clutch pack and increased line pressure will help that. As light as you are, I'd go with a Glide. With the right parts, you'll never have a problem and it'll put your car around 2935 lbs. With the TH400 you'll be over 3000 lbs.

I ran a cheap 350 turbo, just had extra cluthes in it, only thing that ever broke were the cases, i ran 10.50s at 130 in a 74 nova, didnt use the bottle all the time though.

I will eventually be leaving off the brake on the gas, so I need something that will hold up. The tranny is rated to 600hp and I will be pushing that once I start spraying. That is what I am worried about.

We will find out I guess, because the th350 is back in the car!! But the 408 isn't going in for a few months. But I will see how it likes the trans brake.

I leave off the brake with my TH350 all the time. If it's built right it will take it.

I had a built TH350 behind my 408 with a 300 shot and left on the brake all the time. By far the best tranny I have run! Too bad I have to sell it now for the new setup! (The car made 690 RWHP on a 150 pill )

I was told not to push it over the 650 I was told it would handle, so I don't want to chance that. But thanks for the replies.

Thats good to know that some people are having good luck with it. Id rather have a th350 because it takes away less power than the th400 does.
