Default timing chain making rattle noise

Is it poss for it to make noise only during idle and then go away once I idle it up . I have changed all the accy's thinking that was the problem but its not. I took the belt off and the noise is still there so I'm thinking its the chain slapping the cover also having problems starting the car somtimes it will take up too 4 cranks before firing up and usssaly will pop thru the exhaust while cranking ...I have changed all the sensors and cleaned all the grounds and cleaned the PCM connector many times and now thinking if the chain is loose it could cause the timing to be off during crank.

I would agree with you! Has this problem slowly gotten worse?

Its been on going for about 3 months I thought at first it was weather related .The only other thing it could be is my underdrive pulley which I doubt its that. This just gives a reason to install my 01 LS6 cam I have and get some extra HP.

I would stop driving it until you can pull the front cover off and have a look.

Hard starting + popping through exhaust = timing issues, possible damage on the horizon.

Perhaps the cam bolts for the sprocket have backed out...
