Default New Wheel/Tire Combo, Need Opinions C6 Z06

IM SICK OF THE 16" Stock RIMS

I was wondering if anyone could just give me some opinions on what rims/tires to go with while not getting too expensive.

I was looking at the obvious C5, C5 Z06, ZR-1, and the C6 Z06, because those are all kinda in my price range. By looking at my car, do you think it would be a good idea to do the 17/18 setup, 18's all around, or 17's all around. I pretty set on keeping chrome, unless someone can talk me into something different....

I am saving up for a V8 next summer, and will prolly get different rims with that, but would like some different rims for the RS for now at a budget....prolly under 1000 wheels/tires

Also, what tires are a good price and great for summer, tracion and last long?? Ill search for this one too on the site

Forgot to mention that I found some that a member is selling. They are C6 Z06's from tomzwheels, the 17x9.5 and 18x10.5 chrome wheels. offsets 54mm front and 58mm rear... Tires are 275-40-17 fronts and 285-35-18 rears. Tires are Sumitomo HTRZ II and have 90 to 95% tread.

Will these fit without the BFH or spacers...

I would really like to be different and get something that nobody has or that is rare, but i dont have money to spend on it, so ill save it for the LS1 that I want

ANY SUGESSTIONS ON WHAT WOULD LOOK GOOD or wont

I would stick to one size all around. I am not a fan of the staggered look on F bodies. But it's up to you.

I am also not a fan of the staggered thing. As far as sizes go, I would do 18s on your car no doubt. I think they would look great with the ground effects on your car. And if you stay at about a 275 tire or smaller itll be relatively inexpensive. there are a lot of different brands that offer 275 tires in different profile ratios.

since you're on a budge, you should consider sticking with the same size all around. cause that will save you money on tires in the long run.

and look arond the for sale section and ebay for deals on the types you listed, cause they are the most common and easiest cheapest to acquire.

make sure you dont skimp on the tires you choose and IMO I think sticking to 17 or 18" rim with a minimum of a 275 tire is a good idea for an upgrade from the 245-50-16's

I would do the Z07 wheels... I had them on my trans am. I had 18/19 combo.. just cause it cost the same even if I went with a smaller size, so why not get more bang for the buck. here are some pics ...

Ty, I agree with this as the staggered wheel sizes just don't fit the wheel wells of the F-Body as they do on a Vette. Do some 18" all around as your GFX beg for a large wheel IMO and would make your car sick.

The problem with the ZO6 Vette wheels many run is they have terrible offsets for F-bodys which tuck them in too far causing inner rubbing isssues and provide for a whimpy look stance wise. Same problem you are having with the stock 16" wheels. Even the 17" GM SS wheels have a lame offset which doesen't provide for an aggressive look. This gets exaggerated when you lower a car or add GFX. The only way to fix this is to add spacers to push the wheels out further but that also costs more $$ along with changing the wheel studs to have proper thread engagement with the lugnuts to be safe.

The reason the Berger cars (with Fikse wheels) look so tough is they run a 9.5" wheel with an aggressive 35mm offset, not the 58mm or what ever the Vette wheels use that suck the wheels in too far. The 9.5" +35mm wheels with only a 275 tire look more aggresssive from the rear that a wider ZO6 10.5" + 58mm wheel with a 295 tire does. Have a look at some of the "Post pics of your wheels" threads that flood this forum to see what I mean.

Now for a good look that is very inexpensive try some 18" x 9" Crager Chrome wheels from eBay as they are cheap and have an aggressive offset. We got these last summer brand new for just under $500 for all 4 for the Wife's NBM SS, and with 275 BFG tires the whole package was only $1,200 with new lug nuts. Less $$ than just the chrome C6 Vette wheels posted above are w/o tires. Just something to think about to help you save up for your LS1.

Good luck!! Greg

Wife's car (and yes it does need to be lowered Still trying to convince her of that) Notice in the first pic the rear wheels are not tucked in as far as your current wheels are.

Thanks Convicted for the pics, your car looks really good with those rims

Greg, I agree with you that I need a set of rims to complete my car with the gfx and all, and thanks for responding.....im going to look around ebay some more and search for something with a more possible agressive offset.

Think ahead about what kind/color of V8 youre gonna be getting and buy something thatll work with those as well (ie: FAT tires). Then hang on to the stockers on your V6 and throw them back on when you sell it.

I have 18" ZO7s all the way around, but they're 11s in the back witha 53mm offset. Requires the BFH and a little work, but it's sure worth it.
