Default Valve Spring Question

alrite well i tried pm'ing some of the people at tsp, and go no answer... i asked a few people, and they dont kno for sure... so here goes im asking again....

i have dual valve springs that are rated good to 650 lift.... now we all kno the ms4 has 649/ something.... will these springs be sufficient???

Well since you have a TSP cam, did you get the springs from TSP as well? TSP and Patriot have the newer PRC double springs that will work great with LSK lobed cams. Shim them to within .050 of coil bind.

if the ms4 is a .649 lift and the springs you have are good up to .650.... if it was me i definatly would not risk it. i would have to wait and talk to the guys at tsp

The new PRC HD double springs (max lift .650") are the ones that TSP are going to tell you to use for the MS4. They are an improvement over the last design because of the better pressures on the seat and opening.

crane double valve springs good to 650 lift #144832-16

would you guys recomend the TORQUER 3 over the ms4?

patriot came out with a revised version of their gold springs that are rated to .660.

well, they advertise the exact same powerband and peak for 8 less degrees duration, which is 8 less degrees overlap. If its a street car, I say less is more
2300-6700 RPM Power Band with a peak around 6400rpm; This is an excellent performance camshaft with a rough idle

Like the others said, the new dual spring from PRC and patriot handles .660 lift and was specifically spec'd out for LSK lobes. Id use those if possible. The older ones should work but may have a reduced spring life, so expect to change them frequently. On the plus side, I believe the coils are interchangeable, so when you change coils, you can opt for the new ones and still use the same retainers.

I had a cam in my LT1 that have very aggressive ramps and the lift was .605", I ran them on a comp cam 918 spring rated to a max .600" lift, mine had the installed height done. Spring when installed right can exceed recommended limits, also most racers when they have big and aggressive cams, they will do springs every season or 2.

ive read that you would prolly have to change springs every 20,000 miles.... ive had my car for two years, and im bairly putting 20k on it from when i got it... if thats all i have to change them at... than im cool with changin them... i dont think ima be running those stock heads for that many more miles anyways.... the car is a street car, and will see the track often... well prolly around 1-3 times a month... most of the time 1-2.... i didnt really want to sell the springs to get other ones... cuz ive been super laggin on my cam install.. and im finnaly close to getting everything together... but i would also like to be safe then sorry.... the torquer 2 and ms3 are alos proven performers... maybe i should look into one of those... but dam that ms4 cought my eye the first time i seen my friend start up his car with it.. and man i cant beleave hes racing it like crazy without a tune! or titanium retainers!!!

I've got 41,000 miles on a set of PRC platnum dual springs that I got from TSP and the cam is TSP torquer 1st design(233/233 .595/.595 112)..pulls great up to 7000 rpm red line..great springs car is a DD and gets driven over 30,0000 miles a year... those PRC springs are a great value for the money..

I believe the T1 is on XE lobes, unlike the more aggressive XE-R lobes used on the torquer 2 and MS3 or the even more aggressive LSK lobes in the torquer 3 and MS4. The more agressive lobes, coupled to teh outrageous height of the LSK lobes in question will make short work of any spring no matter how good. I certainly wouldnt expect to make it 30K miles.

look at the seat pressure requirements, not only their lift handling.

No the Torquer v1 has the XE-R lobes

To sum up: They will work, but the new revision springs good to .660 are a better choice.
