Default After H/C install how bad will the car ride w/o tune

I will be installing a H/C this weekend, cam is Torquer v3 also installing a Yank SS4000. How bad will my car ride without a tune since I want to break in the TC (150 miles) before I get a tune.

Your car is going to run like dogshit, especially at idle. That cam is going to want at least a 900 rpm idle and a 550/650 rpm idle coupled with stock VE tables is going to possibly foul out your plugs, whack out your O2 sensors and you'll be getting misfire codes from hell from the cam and converter. Bad way to break in a converter IMO. If it's a money thing, I can understand why you may have to wait. If you think it's the right way to do it, you would be mistaken.

It is not a money thing, but I was thinking that the TC has to be broken in (on Yanks website it states a 150 mile break in period) before I take it to a dyno and they lock the TC up to program the car. If I am wrong then I will get it tune after the install. I have never had a car tuned before nor have I put H/C on a car so I do not know what to expect.

Have you done the H/C swap yet? If not then put the converter on now and break it in for 150 miles, then install the Heads and Cam, heat cycle the springs and dyno tune the car. If you have already done the H/C swap then just have it dyno tuned with the 3500 Converter in your sig. Good luck with the install.

Im in the exact same possition i want to have my SS4000 and torquer v.2 installed at the same time and tuned but the converter needs 150 mile break in before going WOT so no dyno tune until then. Im thinking possibly have them tune it at idle so it will at least start and idle ok for the first 150 miles and then have it dyno tuned.

I am going have to do something like that. It just sucks, I have been waiting 2 months to install everything and get time off to do it, and now I can't install everything.

Just do one then the other. What's so hard about that?

The only hard thing is time I don't have it. I just bought a business and have worked everyday since. That is why I have waited to put the parts on b/c I don't have time.

So do one, then the other. You don't have to have them both done NOW NOW NOW. Do the stall. Get it broken in for a month or 3. Then do the cam. You'll probably like the stall better than the cam.

Just get a TSP mail order tune until you can take the trip to get a dyno tune. Thats what I'm doing.

A mail order tune can never be right unless it's totally coincidence. There's no way to know exactly how every car is running, and the climate of your location.

Most mail order tunes only address the WOT details, not the driveability details. The driveability is where you're going to take the big hit without a tune.

I'll have heads and cam on the new car next month and I got the tune from TSP to get me by until I get back home in March to have Bluecat work the bugs out

LOL gonna stop by our guy's place again? I just talked to him this afternoon. He had an AFR/G5X3 LS6 C5 Z06 go like 475/420 on the dyno in Lexington today. With a curve that would make your underwear sticky.
