Teaching the girlfriend to drive a stick...
before i begin, if ur coming in here to make the obvious joke... just click the back button on ur internet browser and maybe go to a **** website and release some pressure and then come back...
that being said... has anyone taught their gf/wife to drive a manual with a ls1? i was thinking of finding some like $100 beater so she wouldnt ruin my clutch... but for convenience i was thinking of giving in and letting her drive my camaro... does anyone have any horror stories of this? or success stories?

While I didn't teach my girlfriend to drive a stick with my LS1, I did teach myself. I'd attribute my first clutch (stock LS6) dying at about 35k miles to my lack of experience...I rode it a lot initially. It was very forgiving to learn on though...it has enough power to power you out of a mistake while taking off from a stop. As long as you specifically tell her not to dump it and mash the gas at the same time, you'd be fine.
I did teach her how to drive a more performance oriented clutch, though, when I let her drive my previous Ram setup. She handled it quite nicely actually. She had to change her mentality from slipping the clutch being okay to it not being okay (or as okay), but she learned very quickly. I was impressed.

a little advice, i tought mine throttle control. i told her to rev to 1000rpm and hold it, then 2500,3500,2000,1000rpm. holding it at each rpm. then showed her how she didn't need to give it gas to make it move. she left very smoothly because of the whole throttle control thing.
the down side though...
the damn b***h has been driving it when i am not around!
on second thought dude, DON"T TEACH HER HOW TO DRIVE STICK!

well, ive never let a girlfriend drive my car simply because i havnt been in a long enough relationship since ive had my 6spd, to trust them enough to drive it.
But i have taught both my mother and brother how to drive stick with my car. I was getting ready to replace my clutch anyway, and they both wanted to learn, so i thought what the hell. in the end, nothing broke, and the laughs were PRICELESS!!!
I actually tried to get my mom put pop the clutch and burnout, but she wouldnt do it.

im too nervous to let my gf drive my m6, mainly because it is a high compression choppy idle H/C car that isnt exactly the easiest thing to drive, and i cant afford a new clutch right now. but i will eventually suck it up and let her. it is good to have her learn to drive it incase of an emergency or something. i notced that you have a 4.10 gear, which actually will make it easier to drive. i'd let her have a shot at it in an empty parking lot or something, but if you feel she is doing absolutly horrible and is going to do major damage then tell her to stop and you take over. good luck.

Unless she slips the clutch really bad she will not do any damage to the clutch. Probably a few stalls, but with the power of the LS it is less likely. I had a harder time driving a 4-banger than a V8 when I was learning. My wife pretty much learned on my car. I would get all upset when I was in the car and she would get flustered. So her friend that drove stick rode with her. Took her a week and she was all over it then.
I was glad she learned for road trips and stuff. Now her car is a stick and the guys are all impressed that she can drive it.

[QOUTE=Sgt Spuds]No way anyones gonna ruin your clutch with one session unless you let **** get way out of hand[/QUOTE]
im with spuds on this one. theres no way shes gonna "*** up your clutch, yo" with an hour or two of her learning and practicing a couple of times.
now go teach her. i wish i could get my wife to get into cars just a little bit...

If you have a 4.10 gear just have her let the clutch out really slow and the car will take off under its own power, very very easy to drive
4cyc and revy cars are hard to learn on

i taught my gf to drive on my SS, no big deal just make sure she knows easy off the clutch easy on the gas and when in dought put the cluthc in and get on the brakes.
our cars have so much power its easy jsut let her let the clutch out till she feels it start to move then give it gas
