Default Methanol in an Aluminium tank ?

I have read the Meth will corrode Aluminium...but then I have read that it won't.

Does anyone run meth in an aluminum tank?

Is there something I could add to the meth to make it less/not corrosive?

Ethanol will corrode an Aluminum tank. Methanol does the same I think.. Has to be a non-corrosive plastic.

Whever you read that it won't was incorrect. Methanol is highly corrosive and will "sour" in an aluminum tank.

But over what period of time ??

I know a guy that left some cuttings of aluminum fuel line, in a jar containging 90% methanol, 10% water.

Several months later, the aluminium still appeared fine.

I still wouldnt be risking it in an aluminium tank though lol

I think a similar topic was mentioned on another forum a while back. They were getting their aluminum tanks coated internally with some sort of plastic bladder, so as to be safe with methanol.

This one is easy. Make your tank out of stainless.

Anodize will protect aluminum. Problem is thread and seat areas on fittings. If the anodize comes off.. your hosed. And I have seen plenty of aluminum fittings damaged by methanol.

For corrosion to occur, you need oxygen, you can submerge aluminum in methanal with little problem, when you add air the oxidation begins and everything goes to hell.

So on that basis, aluminium fuel lines would be fine ?

But an aluminium tank, where it is constantly exposed to both methanol and air....is a big no no ?

As long as you keep the tank sealed and dont allow air to enter, you should be fine. Corrosion needs Oxygen to takes place, just like rust..

Exactly, weld the lid shut. Then take your injection hose off, dunk it in a jug of meth and reverse the wiring on your pump to fill your tank
