Default will these heads work?

Im helping a friend with a motor swap and we have a set of ls1 heads (i think he said they were 853's) and were trying to fire out if they will work on a 5.3 bottom end?

Yeah they will work,but there not necesarilly any better performance wise than the 5.3/4.8 heads. I think they will lower your compression ratio.

I know it is possible to swap the other way around, but I`m not positive that LS1 heads will work out on a 5.3L. A lot of the aftermarket companies started using 5.3L heads to port out for the 5.7L LS1`s. The 5.3L heads have smaller combustion chambers so after they finish porting them and removing material the combustion chamber ends up with the same volume as a 5.7L LS1 head and they don`t take a hit on compression ratio. If you swap LS1 heads onto a 5.3L you will lose a little bit of compression ratio.
