Cam to big for ls1
Hey guys wondering if this cam by comp is too big for the stock valvetrain. Can I just upgrade to comp springs and tune. Or do you think it is to big and will require heads and new valvetrain.?
Cam SPecs: Comp Cams XTREME XE-R XER287HR - 238/240 - .605/.609 w 1.7 rocker - 110 LSA

You could probably squeak it by with 918 springs, but 921 dual are obviously recommended. Other than that, you should degree that cam and check piston to valve clearance, it could be pretty tight on the intake side.
This cam is a little smaller than the TRex, which fits cam only. But, it is still a relative monster for 346 cubic inches. I hope you have a good intake and exhaust system, plus either a 4000 stall and 3.73 gears for your auto or 4.10 - 4.56 gears for your stick shift.

People have ran bigger. I would just check piston to valv clearence to be on the safe side. You might want to consider gears, but then again its people crazy enough to drive a T-rex with stock gears so thats your call.

I had that cam, on a 112, in a bolt on stock 98 motor and a 3400 stall, when my was an auto, and with the old motor. It will fit just fine, and I turned it 6800rpms. You will need to replace the pushrods with hardened ones, you would be better off with dual valve springs like prc or patriot which come with everything you need as far as the springs, seats, seals, retainers, for half the price of 921s.
