How bad does this valve stem look?

I know this is the LS1 section, but theres 10x more traffic in here than the LT1 section so thats why I posted it here. Should I just try to sand down the burs and run it how it is? I plan on rebuilding my motor on a couple years so how bad does this valve stem look? What will happen if I just sand down the burs and run it? I really don't want to pull the heads unless its necessary.

Maybe you could try a good polishing with a dremel tool. If the valvestem is soft the problem will return without a doubt but it might buy you some time. If you polish it, make sure you do the same for the rocker because it probalbly has some damage too. Cover/mask the engine good just to make sure you don't put a bunch of metal filings into your engine. good luck

Is it a stock exhaust valve? On the LS1, the stock exhaust valve has a welded in place hardened cap. If you are have the same, it needs to be replaced. I would replace it in any event since the end has to be perpendicular to the valve stem and polished. Unfortunately, you need to pull the head. The other question is whether others are also doing this. You might want to do some dye penetrant testing on the valve stems. Then there is the question of cause, could be an oil starvation issue or something else. In other words, this could be a symptom of another problem not the main problem itself.
