Default 5.3 Vortec manifold to hood clearance

Anyone put a 5.3 Vortec in their car and kept the truck manifold? I like the way it looks and its a take off from the dealer, off of a Joe Gibbs truck before they put the blower on. Its a LM7 Manifold and I would think because of the height I would get a little more torque. I laid a piece of tape accoss the car in front of the TB and it looked like I had about 2 3/4" difference from the top of the tape and the top of the plastic cover. Anybody have any measurements for a 68-72 Nova with a cowl hood. A 4" would more than work but I'd like to get a 2" cowl hood on it if possible. Thanks for your help.

I fit my truck intake under the stock hood of a 71 vw bug, I think you should be fine. I am not running the vortec cover though

Your VW is a little different, but if you have the measurements of a 68-72 cowl hood, i.e. how far forward the cowl starts and how fast it ramps up that would be great.

nice, it looks like you can get it to fit with a very small cowl, which looks amazing on your body style

The Vortec cover cleans the manifold up. A Vortec manifold doesn't look as good without it like a LS1 or LS2.

The truck manifold cleared the hood on my 78 trans am except for the evap solenoid. Another issue you may have if you are using the truck accessories is with the alternator. I had to lower mine 1.5".

Alternator is close, but fits. I removed the EVAP purge and pluged it with an old sparkplug boot and some RTV. It's not pretty but it works. Did you keep the scoop on the 78?

i have a truck intake on my 68 camaro with a 2 inch cowl hood and all i had to do was cut out some of the supports from under the hood but it didn't do any thing to the structural integrity of the hood. i had to do the same for the alternator.

Stock hood works fine, now I just have to get out of the 83 in a 45mph speeding ticket. Make sure you calibrate you speedo's, its cheaper that way.

Default hood fitment?

I'll be ready to test fit my stock Nova hood on the truck manifold within the next couple of days, I'll keep you posted!

Don't know if FL has this, but, in WI we have a statute for "defective speedometer". Our city attorney likes to give people this as a deal on regular speeding tickets. It costs the same $, but doesn't cost points on your driver's license (you get 12 points in a 12 month period - a speeding ticket is 3-4 points) .

Put the hood back on today, there's surprisingly very little interference. The hood won't close with the Vortec "beauty cover" on top of the manifold, but the only thing needing trimming was the front plastic/brass boss for one of the coverplate's mounting screws. Other than that, it fit like a gem, no alternator issues. I have Carshop (S&P knockoff) motor mount adapter plates, if that helps let you know where abouts the engine is placed. And oh yeah, it's a stock hood.

Well I didn't get out of the speeding ticket, $525 and 4 points, thats gonna affect my Nova fund money. I'm gonna get my Dakota Digital speedo fixed for sure. As far as the truck manifold cover, its a no go, will probably put a blower on instead if my car insurance doesn't go up.
