Default 3.4 to LS1 swap...time for go fast

I figured this would be the section to post in so here it goes...

I have decided to swap an LS1 into my 1995 Firebird. I love cars, wanting to eventually open up my own Performance shop and I feel this would be a good way and a fun way to test my skills.

I've concluded I will need:

-LS1 engine with all components
-computer harness
-dash cluster from V8
-T-56
-K-member
-fuel pump/regulator
-LS1/LT1 brake setup
-exhaust

I already have:

-WS.6 suspension including 32/19mm swaybars and springs/shocks
-WS.6 rearend with 3.42 gears and Auburn posi
-1 piece driveshaft

So my suspension is good to accommodate the upgrade.

Yes, I know this will cost between $4500 to $5400, I have done MUCH research. Please don't come into this thread and post comments like, mod your V6 or just sell and get a V8 car, I just would like to do this because I love my car and have too much blood and sweat into it. This is my decision.

The purpose of this thread is to see who all has done the 3.4 V6 to LS1 V8 swaps and see if they can post links and/or a tutorial of some kind or what they used to aid them in their swap.

If you have done this swap PLEASE PM me I would be very greatful to hear your experiences and such, what pissed you off, what you did exactly, and hardships, snags, or easy things...anything I can. Research is KEY before doing a project like this. Wiring as of now is what I think will get me up the *** the most.

Thank you all in advance for your help.

Travis

I am in the middle of converting a 1995 LT1 car into a LSX, I have done a little research and got an idea on some things that have to be done, but I am still tying up some ends. You will need a few more parts than me, you already have an idea(Dash Gauges, Fuel Pump). I am making it directly plug in, and it is possible, everything is right infront of you. I hope someone else will chime in, cause I still have a few things to straighten out. It's not that hard, you will be putting in some time, trust me..

I've heard that you just have to play with wires for like an eternity and splice and reconnect mostly all the wires...

and I too hope someone can help me out.

and yea...losts of time for sure...lol

Like I said, it's not that hard. If you understand how everything works and map it out, everything lines up, you just have to move some stuff around. My goal is a direct plug in, and it is possible. I just need wire diagrams, and I have been keeping track of what I am doing for reference.

if you get that working man i'd love to get a diagram for it. it'd be so much cleaner/better than cutting and splicing everything...

honestly.. reguardless itll be down for at least a month or 2 unless you can spend 1 or 2 full weeks working on the car all the time.. even then you will end up waiting for parts etc. my advice is to dive in and expect it to take a while..

i hope to have the car up and running within 3 weeks of initial tear down, I HOPE haha.

i plan to have the motor done and ready to go in before my bday which is in July. the brakes will already be done by then. i am going to get a tubular K member from BMR and hopefully that'll help a little bit on the weight end.

also i will be doing this during the summer so school will be out, so hopefully i will be working dawn till dusk, unless i have some crazy houred job. haha. i work at a boat dock during the summer so hopefully i'll only work weekends...so i was thinking...2 weeks at the least...

How far are you along..as in what do you have already. I pretty much just completed the Harness conversion. Everything matches up, so hopefully it runs when it goes in.

It might be cheaper in the long run (I'm not gonna say sell the V6 car) to get a wrecked 98+ ls1 fbody. Take everything off it you need IE motor tranny ect ect and sell the rest of it. You would come out ahead in the end. Two problems are that you have to front the money for the other car, and have a place to store it. Those are two things that will hamper doing that.

I prefer to have that 95 and back car cause it is cheaper on Insurance, and it's not emissions tested. Alot of the 96 and up cars get hit with alot of those tests.
