Best to bite the bullet and rent the puller.

Default "Blind Hole Puller"

I just change my clutch, slave, and pilot bearing last week. If I were you I would go and rent the "blind hole puller" from autozone(adavanced does not have them). It is similar to a slide hammer except that it has a smaller fitting to be able to fit easily inside the pilot bearing. It took a total of 5 minutes and the bearing was out. I spent three hours the night before with alternative tools with no luck. The deposit is about $145 dollars but you get everything back when you return it.

Yes, sometimes this needs to be done but always use as a last option if nothing else has worked.

Or you can do like the old days and stuff the **** out of the hole with wet paper tissure and use an old input shaft and hammer to get it to slip out. Not too good on the thrust bearings though.

From what I have read in here that is not a good idea on the LSX engines due to having a freeze plug behind the pilot bearing and by doing that you will actually push the plug out and into the oil pan. I am sure a search on this will clear up any unexplained detail I might have forgotten.

Or...if it aint broke, dont fix it.

I know if and when I change my clutch, I'll be leaving mine well alone.

Get a grease gun, and put it up to the hole and use the grease to force it out, it's how we do them at the dealer that don't wanna come out, if we don't feel like grabbin the puller...If you don't have a grease gun, then just rent the puller...

Can't do that either . Remember that there is a freeze plug behind the bearing and forcing anything into there could damage the freeze plug. Use the puller or a small dreimal tool grind away one spot (be cery careful not to touch the crank) hit it a punch to crack it and it should come out with ease.

Take a can of compressed air...like people use to clean out their keyboards. Invert it and spray the pilot bearing until it freezes. That will shrink the bearing up slightly and allow your puller to work easier.

Around here Advanced auto caries the puller, worked great for me. You may need some heat along with it.

Lol, yeah, I myself wouldn't recommend it or do it with the LS1 hollow cranks with the plug ... but I just threw it out there 'cos it's been done in the past with good results

Even with the blind hole puller, you'll likely have to beat that sucker good. They can get stuck in there tight. The compressed air idea is pretty interesting.

Get one of your finer wash clothes, wrap up some ice and hold it on the end of the bearing. Wait about 5 minutes then use the slide hammer. This is what I had to do.
