Default Whats your Redline, the real run it up to all the time one

I'm not a real smart motor guy, so I hear many comments that I fail to add the proper grain of salt to. What is the real run it up there anytime you want as long as you want redline on your cars?

or

Is 7500 rpm a totally insane goal for a street motor that needs to pass Calif Smog? It would see some road racing time, as in hammering it in the power band for a couple hours at a time, just not something I could do very often. I also don't want to get too exotic like a dry sump, something that could fit in a $8k budget a real solid rebuild, balancing, 400 rwhp being plenty.

id be happy with 7200, it's a little safer. a built bottom end stock cubes can handle it, IMO i'd put this in the internal engines section. You get into valvetrain harmonics probs at very high RPM. These engines dont really need to spin that high, they have the torque to keep the powerband lower and broader.

I've asked about a few different types of motors in other forums, and 7k and below is the trend, above that you need a racing budget to tear down and rebuild when it breaks. Seems like its also just a lot cheaper to stroke or whatever to increase the cubes then to raise the redline.

Thanks, more info if you got it.

NO idea what I should be revving my motor to. I think Ive hit 7000 breifly on a few occasions. Usually when I get on it in 1st and I get wheel spin... It sounds like I might be hitting a rev limiter right around 7k...but I havent looked at the previous owners tuning to see if its set.

I usually shift at around 6200 to 6500...But it is still pulling like a freight train at 6500. SO if I could go to 7000 without issue...I would.

How does one go about finding the safe rev limit for an engine?? Is that something that a tuner or engine builder could figure out from the engine components???

rev limiter set at 7200, I shift at 7000. Stock crank, pistons, and rods with just arp rod bolts. It's been my DD for over a year and over 20000 miles like that. I don't take it up that high every time I take it out, but, I don't worry too much about it either. It pulls like a freight train all the way to 7k.

I know its not a real LS1 but I have to represent for the truck motor guys .

2001 5.3L with 130k on it. It is set to shift at 5500 with a 6000 rev limiter. According to the chassis dyno the motor makes peak power at 5000.

I have the TSP 231/237 .595/.598 112 Lsa cam. It pulls all the way to 7200, but I don't like it to go that high.
