Mandrel Tube Bender?? He guys, I want to get a Mandrel Tubing Bender to do some exhaust work, for 2-3" O.D. tubing. I was wondering if there is a manual one out there, instead of spending a ton of cash on a hydraulic unit?
anybody have one or tips?

ANY type of mandrel bender is BIG bucks! For exhaust, maybe look into buying a box of mandrel bent pieces. There's some on e-bay, and other places. Good luck.

yeah I've been looking at the powered mandrel benders and they cost a ton. I was hoping to find a manual one for a decent price
So far I've been buying the boxes of mandrel bent pieces and cut and weld them together...getting a little tired of that!

Dude... mandrels are $. Fill the pipe your bending with white sand and weld caps on the ends... It'll bend just like mandrel. Especially if it's just for a one time deal.

Absolutely. Get on google and search pipe bending with white sand. They use this technique when bending PVC pipe. The same principle is used with metal... The sand wont compress which makes mandrel quality bends.

thanks man, i'll have to look that up
how accurate are the manual benders? i'm assuming they have some sort of degree markings on them so if I wanted to create bends of the same design over and over, i could

Extremely accurate. As far as I'm concerned a mandrel bender serves it's purpose in mass production and pure luxury for people who don't want to go through with the technique I've introduced you to. All a mandrel machine does is slide a precision die down the tube and extracts it at precise speeds.

I want to try the sand method. The thing I cant get over with mandrel benders isnt really the bender cost...its the cost of the friggin dies. But I guess thats the important part of the mechanism so I can understand I guess.

i went to their website, and their 180* hydraulic bender only does 2" OD....that doesn't work when i'm using 2.5" and 3"

almost $8,000 for one to do 3"!
I still can't find a manual one that will do 3" so I can do the white sand method....
Miter Brothers only went up to 2" as far as I can tell...
