Default Need to replace rack and pinion

Mechanic said I need to replace the rack and pinion, any idea how hard this is? Where can I get one for cheap?

id advise deff. usuing a lift....its also a good idea to change your ps pump when you do this, just because of the issue of getting contaminated fluid in it...or it already having some...ie when the rack fails small metal pieces get into the fluid and screw over the pump

You don't need a lift but it would help. 7 bolts hold the rack on. It is not a hard swap. A tie rod popper would save you some time.

2 tie rods at the knuckles
2 fittings from the pump
2 bolts that hold the rack to the K member
2 bolts on the coupler from the steering shaft
(you might only need to undo the one right on the rack input)

Get an alignment, unless you are really confident in your tie rod end measurments.

No problem.
