Default Smog Legal Camshaft

I am looking to get a decent cam for my '02 LS1, one that perhaps will sacrifice low end torque but have some high end gain. Is there any cam out there that would pass emissions tests in california. Should i upgrade my valvetrain to suit the higher RPM power band? My goal is 400 rwhp NA with a cam, fast 90, and exhaust. ultimate goal is 500 rwhp with a 100 shot of nitrous. Is this realistic? Any oppinions appreciated.

I'm in the same boat as you....have to pass CA emissions and want to produce as much power as possible. From what I have read (and people I have spoken with) you will need to limit your camshaft selection to a 224/224, 114 LSA (-4 overlap) at the largest. Apparently this cam will just pass CA emissions with a good tune. If you want to play it safe, you could go with a 220/224, 114 LSA (-6 overlap) or smaller. With some mild head work and a free flowing exhaust system this cam should put you at or above 400 rwhp with ease. Add the 100 shot of nitrous and you will be at your target 500 rwhp.

personally i would get some heads before i got a fast 90....but either way i dont think you will have a problem meeting your goals with a pulley.

I don't know much about the Patriot LS6 heads...you might want to do a search on them and/or ask around here on the various forums. Personally I'm looking at the AFR 205s.
