Default Can I do a "Limp Home" mode on purpose?

I'm putting an LS6 into my '87 Mercedes and expect wonderful things with it. Since I live in Vegas, I let the valet guys at the casinos park my cars fairly often but don't want to give them an LS6 to play with.

What does it take to put an LSx engine into "Limp Home" mode and would it hurt the engine if used occasionally?

Does it (or can it) put the engine into a lower HP mode while there?

Thanks,
Mike R.

I think that there are options to do this with the tuning programs. I know that you can have a valet mode with the EFI Live 7 software, I can`t remember if you have to run an EFI Live 7 custom operating system to get it or if you can just tweak the GM OS. HP Tuners may have a similar feature.

It would be sweet to have it on a hidden switch somewhere. I would love to know if I can do that to my '01 too.

EFI Live has a Valet mode that is switchable (you can limit top speed or max revs, or both) if you use one of their custom operating systems.

I thought if KR sensors were disconnected it would put it in the low timing table. If that's the case, flash the low timing table even lower, put an inline switch to the KR sensors somewhere inside the vehicle and now you have a form of limp mode.

have a laptop, have your peformance tune, gas milage tune, and valet tune with a rev limiter of 3k just switch between them as you see fit

How about an external rev limiter? Install it with an A/B type switch.

Sounds like a good idea, is it easy to do? This sounds like something a tuner would have to set up.

The external rev limiter would be fine as well but I have no idea how to add one. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Mike R.

You have to use a custom OS(like happy jim said above) and have a switch to ground pin 56 of your pcm red connector.

Page 15 of custom OS tutorial shows how to setup valet mode.
Thats IF you want to run efilive

yes a tuner would pretty much be the one to set it up. youd have to have a laptop and a tuning program in the computer to change it on the car. but since you are a baller with a benz in vegas i think you can afford it

Of course since EFI Live has a way to do the Valet function, that means I have an HP Tuners setup. More research.

What is a "baller with a Benz"? The Benz is 20 years old, a 1987 560SEC, so while it is a beautiful car, it's not a firm indication of wealth. Can you spell "poseur"? :-)
