Default intake showdown

hey guys, you really helped me out with my exhaust in the "loudmouth trouble" thread so ive come back for more. ive searched many of the threads but i can't really find the answers im looking for... so if this question has already been posted i apologize in advance. but i'm doing my homework on the many intakes there are for an LS1 and im not sure which one is the most cost effective and which one will provide the most hp. i was curious if anyone had a preference... let me know what you think

thanks alot

birdman

p.s. if anyone is selling an intake pm me thanks

cost effective LS6.You can buy a used one for around $300.
most HP if you got the extra cash a PORTED fast 90/90.If your will to pay the $$$$ for a fast get a ported one

Are you tallking intake manifold or just intake setup as in filter, lid, MAF, etc.

If manifold:

Budget good for all setups (n/a, FI, boost)

-Ported stock TB and LS6 intake.

Expensive (maninly n/a but will work for other setups also)

-FAST 90 intake and NW or PTM 90mm TB (ported FAST 90 intake even better)

All other setups generally have some form of compromise for a street machine.

I assume you are talking about the intake (lid) setup judging by the fact that your sig says you have a voolant air kit but looking for something else?

If this is what you are looking for then this question is debatable. Cost effect IMO a lid is the best way to go. There are plenty out there including slp, whisper, mti etc etc and they pretty much all have the same horsepower output.

If talking about the intake manifold then the best bang for the buck is the ls6 as mentioned above.

Yes as far as complete intake setup, I would run an ls6 intake manifold, ported stock TB, and lid. That will add a great deal of hp to an otherwise stock car, and also be fairly inexpensive doing it.

Why not run an LS2 intake?

Can use a 90MM TB and is waay cheaper than a FAST 90/90

And don't tell me it can't be done..because it has...and fairly easily

It's been done many times. But I've been told that apparently the gains are minimal compared to the ls1 intake

On a 346ci the LS6 intake usually out performs the LS intake but a substantial amount. It's down to the plenum chamber design more than the inlet diameter.

why he isnt even asking about that. there is a sticky at the top of the page that shows most of the intake manifolds dyno #s and a graph so you can choose the best for you. most popular will be non-metal intakes ls6/fast https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iii-external-engine/520845-mod-guide-induction-exhaust-please-read-before-posting.html

TPIS now modifies the LS6 intake manifold to accept a 90mm throttle body. I have this on my LS6 and noticed a very nice increase over a ported oem TB.
