Alright it's -2 below zero right now in Kentucky and I just noticed that when it's this cold, my windows won't go down. No snow...no ice....just freaking cold. Not that I need to use my windows, but anyone know what might cause this???
I must make it known that due to rebuilding a tractor and having parts scattered everywhere is the reason I can't pull my car in the garage. Are my parts just frozen?
(okay, insert your own redneck joke here) :jest:
Does anyone else have this problem???

Sounds like those wonderful GM window motors. Are they slow when it's warm?

No that's the thing...they work fine when it's 30 degrees and above.

Mine do it to but they are on their way out. Get some replacements from autozone.

no way. I have an autozone replacement and its terrible. my gm passenger window goes down but the autozone replacement wont.
If you do not normally see temperatures that low then I suspect its just a humidity problem. I regularly get weather well below 0F and its never a problem except after it has warmed up for a day or two. The absolute humidity rises, everything in your car is much more moist and when it goes cold, locks, windows, everything freezes up for a few days until the moisture goes away by boiling off. The cycle repeats each time the weather changes.
Trust me, you do not want my problem, my door latch froze up requiring me to drive for 15 minutes until the door would latch. I had to hold the door closed with my hand. It was like that for 2 days when it first hit -10F (-24C) or so.

Could be a Dorman also if it's from AutoZone... Does AutoZone still carry Siemens?

well ive noticed that too, past week its been an average of like 2 above zero in nw indiana here, and if i try to go put my windows down i push the button and nothing happens, now after i drive for awhile and the carf and everything is warm inside and what not, itll go down, so im thinkin it could be the cold doin it to you...id wait till it gets back up to like 30-40 see if it still does it...

carquest can also get siemans. I used them on one side and gm on the other for comparison. I like the siemens it seems to be faster altough it could all be in my head.

I would think the grease would be harder then normal combined with weak voltage to the motors so they probably just could not move it. Good thing you don't really need the windows going down much when its that cold outside. I'd probably just stay home :)
