Default tried everything, still humming!
i changed the oil, added gm limited slip lubricant, replaced axle bearings, checked the bearings on the differential(seems ok) but i still hear humming anything over like 20 - 25 from the rearend. btw, its a 98 ss (89k miles) and havent touched the ring and the pinion yet. does this cause the noise therefore is it time to buy a new set?

it has almost 90k miles and i think teeth(both pinion and ring) have small stratches on them.

try the carrier and pinion bearings next.

find a writeup on reading the patten on the teath. I would venture to say that the backlash or pre load is not set correctly.
