1. pull of hose!
2. pull the bolts out
3. pull old t-stat and housing out
4. Put new one in
5. put bolts back in
6. Put hose back on

actually he doesn't HAVE to get it tuned for them. don't scare him into thinking that his car will run like crap.
your car will run fine, just your fans won't run that much.
get it tuned whenever you want, its not urgent, if you got more bolt ons planned just do the thermostat and get it tuned after you get other parts
