its more of a multi flash tuner. It basically holds 2 or more canned tunes that you can flash in at the track or what have you.

yes, it is as simple as flashing in the tune you want, about 30 seconds to change tunes.

It is not necessarily a canned tuner, like a hypertech or off the shelf diablo unit, since the custom tuning dealer you purchase it from, has a full software to program the device.

i think it is a very neat thing. it is alot better than running down on timing on a nitrous car that u DD. u can bump the timing back up and still have a lil extra power. how much should i look at spending on the setup with dyno time. i got quoted 650 for everything. with 50 retunes

You could do the same thing with a custom OS for nitorus except it retards timing when you turn the system on no need to reflash and waste 30 seconds just flip the switch and smoke the guy next to you.(that is if your 99+ us 98 guys get screwed ) That shouldent cost you 650 with the handheld your paying for the unit and the tune and the dyno time with the custom os your just paying for dyno time and tune. If the sct box has data logging though i would say go for it.

Make sure that it has data logging get the guy to say "YES the sct box has standalone data logging built into it right now". Custom os is an hpt and efi live thing they do a whole reflash takes alittle longer to change thatn normal tune(its a one time change though) but writes the entier pcm then you have it set up for boost or nitous or other options. What are are you located im sure one of the sponsers in that area has efi live or hpt and could hook you up for less than 650.

the SCT GM hardware does not have stand along datalogging at this time. You can do passthrough datalogging using a free software download and a laptop.

For the custom OS, you will need to talk to people who offer those, we only work with the factory pcm software.

Pass threw means that it datalogs while its hooked up to a laptop using scaning softwear that i assume you can download free.(slow help me out on the free thing). From what i understand it will be alittle bit for the standalone data logging the guys i know that use it say there data logging with the softwear isnt even fully functanal yet(as compared to efi or hpt). As far as fecomending it i have messed with it a little and it works fine the bugs have been worked out and can tune just fine now however the price is a little high i mean you could purchase softwear of your own for 650(hpt or efilive v1) efi v2 is only 750.

correct, pass through using a free datalogging program.

You have to compare the price for the dealer doing the custom tune, so compare the price of a HPT/EFI package, + a dynotune, to compare to a Xcal2 and a dynotune.

hpt/efi package + dyno time if he is tuning him self if not then the tuning package isnt a very good deal. If he want to get a good deal im just saying to ask around to some efi/hpt dealers and see if they can get him a custom os and tune for cheaper than 650. Sct is a good option if your willing to pay that much for it (or you can tell them you can get custom os cheaper and see if the price comes down)
