Default FYI A/C Compressor, Engine Kill

Ok, so it's like 10 degrees out and I'm freezing, so I'm not sure if this is a good thread title. However, I was at a Pizza Hut enjoying lunch. I go to leave, start up my car, I hear this, whoosh and my car shuts off. I try again, same thing. So I try keeping it at about 2grand, and it stays on. I look around, and begin to see smoke, oops, ,compressor shot. It's actually glowing red. I shut off the car, cut the belt off and everything is running fine.

I just wanted to post something in here about it, in case anyone is wondering why their car is shutting off in the winter. I'm guessing if you let your car keep running the belt will eventually burn off, but I'm not exactly sure where the belt could be thrown.

In some cases, I guess you could just unhook the clutch from the compressor also...
