Umm need more than just a random part number.. V8, V6, out of a car, truck... efi or carb...

That partnumber could be the UPC code on a cerial box for all Google knows... you need to be more specific with the search field.

no its a GM part number for a Motor...I already no that...Ive searched...I just would like to know what motor...whether its EXACTLY the same as the one that was built in it...

BTW do a search on that part number and it will tell you its a motor...

It was replaced in 03....and it seems it has 241 heads on it...

What im wondering is this...did ANY aftermarket parts go into the motor....is there any way to find that out? I know the dealership where the swap was done and the date etc etc.

im beting its a stock ls1.

i would call the dealer and see if they still have the info they wrote up befor and after the motor was installed. btw do you know what went on the motor for them to replace it?

I remeber back awhile ago...I was reading in a post that the LS6 block has like a a circle on it and the LS1 block has a bullseye....mine has a circle....

Because it isn't shiny like it is supposed to be! :judge:

I really mean it too, if I am not mistaken the LS1 block is shiny :) and the LS6 is a dull :( gray.

Whereas you can tell a VTEC block by the characteristic :gay: .

I read it from some car tech rag awhile back.

The article was explaining about how they were sticking LS6 blocks in the LS1 F-Bodies.

It mentioned ways to identify if you were one of the "lucky" ones. Mostly by identifying the different appearance of the block due to different casting/material/whatever they were talking about.

Basically they said if you stuck one next to the other LS1 was shinier/lighter in color than the LS6.

Ooooooookay, I just looked at the LS6 in my garage and despite it being uber clean it isn't a bit shiny. Now I don't remember how shiny my other 2 LS1's were butttt...

I would expect that they were a bit lighter in color than the LS6 if I remember correctly.

Look at these pics....if your looks like these you have an LS1 block if you circle is filled in you have an LS6 block

The LS6 has slightly larger bay-to-bay holes casted between the cylinders at the bottom of the bores. It lets air move around at higher rpm with a bit less turbulence so there isn't as much whipping of the oil.

Slightly more reinforcement in the webbing, and the alloy is slightly stronger than the LS1 alloy.

Not to bring up an old post for nothing, but my block has the circles filled in with cross hatches and the block is of a dark grey color compared to that in the picture above... Does this mean I have an LS6 block? How can I confirm this? Are there any LS6 casting numbers on the block that are easily accessable?

There's a casting number on the driver's side rear deck, above the transmission flange. From an OLD article I printed out about some 01/02 cars coming with the LS6 block it says the PN is 12561168. You'll need a flashlight and an inspection mirror to find it.

So U Think Having A Ls6 Block On Ur Fbody Worth More Horsepower Or Anything In Particular It Does Extra Than A Regular Block On Ur Fbody ?? If Ls6 Block In 0-02 F Bodies Makes More Hp Than A Ls1 Block Then I Will Look For Wut I Got In My 02 Ta Otherwise I Will Dont Even Bother To Look Into .
