Default 275s on 17X11s?

I'm looking for some MT ET street radials for my non-dd. I've got the 17X9.5, 17X11 set up now. MT makes 275/40R17s but not 315/35R17s. It says in the Wheel/Tire FAQ sticky(on cz28.com) that 275s will keep the same tire diameter on 9.0-11.0 rims. Would 275s on 17X11s not be a good idea? Would it look stupid to have two of the same width tires on two different width rims on the same car? If so, are there any suggestions for drag radials for 17X9.5, 17X11 set ups that are a decent balance b/t traction and tread wear? I'd rather not pay $200/tire for tires that only last 5K, but traction is important.

I've seen a set of 285/40/17 tires on a 17X11 wheel. It looked really stupid, the tire clearly looked too skinny for the wheel, IMO. The area where the tire bead meets the rim was pulled out further than the point where the tread meets the sidewall.

Keep in mind, that was a 285 tire on an 11" wheel, and you're talking about a 275 tire. So I imagine the 275 would look even worse. Not saying it can't be done, but it will look stupid, IMO.

here's the pic you're looking for. it's done all the time, and personally haven't done, but think it looks good and seems to serve its purpose.

I agree.

You can clearly see in those pics what I was refering to. The rim is wider than the tread of the tire, and the sidewall tapers inward as it goes up to meet the tread. Looks gay, IMO.

Jeez, it doesn't look that bad. It looks as good if not better than Nitto 315's. They have similar dimensions.

i don't think it looks bad either, i'm sure someone with a vette or that set up will post a pic of them on their car here though.

rpm most people would use those as a drag set-up anyway, not for show, so i don't know how the gay factor even comes in to play here.

you've really only got 3 choices anyway
nitto
mickey t's
or bfg's

and there's plenty of right ups on that.
at least there is still talk of m/t in a 315 for next month or 1st of april.

Why would someone want to use 17" wheels for a drag only setup? There are much better options for drag use than 17X11s, which are heavy and require a small sidewall.

Here is my 17X11 with a 285 tire....your right it probably needs a 315 tire but it hooks good and I didnt feel like messing with rubbing issues.

Ive had both 275s and 285s back when i had 17x11s. 285s are so-so. 275s are a no-no. you need 315s to really work safely. isnt there a sticky on this somewhere?? personally i would go with some 16s with 255 50 16 MT drag radials. they hook like a ****. i was launching my car at 4800rpm with them. BUT i would DEF NOT use em on the street on rainy days... nittos FTW there

The MT obviously run a wider tread than most others. Those pictured above fit almost identical to my 315 nitto's.
But also as stated above, the 17's, especially the 11" wide are a bad choice for drag use. They are so heavy it isn't funny. Consider the rotational mass of that wheel.
