Default My 2000 SS Totaled Sunday

After waiting a year to get my car back up and running after getting screwed by APE , I got it back together about 6 weeks ago. Sunday afternoon I was cruising over to home depot on a four lane highway by my house and a 72 year old woman ran a stop sign and t-boned the passenger side of my car. I was going 50mph and they said she was going 40-45 and never even hit the brakes! My car and hers are totaled! The EMT and deputies said if it hadnt been for my rollbar they probably would have been air-lifting me out! I'm fucked-up and dont know how bad till I see the specialist today. How fast our lives can change! When all the dust settles I'll decide what I want to do with the car. Engine and drivetrain are fine. Passenger side of car is fine. This has been a seven year love of mine and now its gone! This sucks!!!

Bummer news!

Hope you're not bumped up too bad man, but as mentioned (even though it sucks when you pour your heart and soul into a car) at least you're alive. Hopefully you can either rebuild better than before or build a new faster ride!

Good luck!

I'd assume your still pretty out of it, but did she hit the passenger side, or the driver?

this whole episode, is exactly why I think once you turn 55, you should have to have a hearing, vision, reaction time as well as a road test in order to keep your license. I can't even count the # of accidents I have seen/heard about that involves someone over the age of 60. Should start testing before they get there..... I bet accidents go down 25% nationwide if we did it.

Couldn't agree more. And my parents who land in that age section couldn't agree more either.

Sucks about the car man, good thing you didn't need the air lift, and at least the attorney has the ball rolling on it. I've seen far too many of these threads this year already

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Maybe you need to move to Cali.

California DMV Begins New Driving Test For Seniors
(AP) The California Dept. of Motor Vehicles has begun applying a three-tier driving test meant to identify people with impairments brought on by old age.

The new test, which is in effect at select Northern California offices, is in response to the number of accidents involving seniors.

The department's new screening is a reaction to an explosion in the number of drivers over 65 -- the fastest growing segment of the population as Baby Boomers enter their senior years.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety found that death rates for drivers 70 and older are higher than for those ages 30 to 59.

By the year 2020, the number of California drivers 65 and older is expected to increase from 2.8 million to 4 million.

You should have walked up to her after the wreck, and pummeled her chest and stomach with a devastating series of lightning-fast punches, then looked down at her crumpled body and roared, "That's how it felt when you hit me!!! GET UP!!!!" Then you should have stolen her purse.

Older people should be tested more often but majority of accidents are 17-21 year olds that don't drive safely and people talking on cell phones not paying attention. Old people accidents might be 1-2% at the most.

I don't think the 1-2% is quite right....they're pretty much 1% below teenagers the last time I saw a survey on it (sometime last year in an STL area publication) it was ran right after some old lady mistook the accelerator for a brake pedal and drove into the front of a local hair salon
