Default Corvette manual question...

I am currently working on a 408 build and need to know about the tranmission. I plan to get an 98-01 manual vette. Will the factory t56 withstand 500-550RWHP? Can you just do a clutch and output shaft change?

You will "probably" be fine with just a clutch change. Since the trans is the least likely component to cause massive failure of other components, I would try it before spending money on upgrades. It's not like an IRS halfshaft, where failure could damage the back half of the car.

If you don't do sticky tires or do any epileptic gear grinds, the stock trans will be just fine. Even with good tires you should be OK, but take that with a grain of salt, because some guy on the internet won't be who has to crawl under your car if something breaks.
