Default Faster tach

Is there anyway to make the factory tach faster/more responsive? I dont really like the look of an aftermarket tach on the dash, even if the ricers tell me its worth some 50 odd rwhp

I ended up getting an AutoMeter w/shift light and its amazing how slow to react the stock tach is. Even if you arent rowing through the gears I noticed my factory tach was a few hundred RPM off when it got over about 4K. So in answer to your question, I dont know.

Ya you can make your tach more responsive!

Add a lightweight flywheel and underdrive pulley

Are there any aftermarket tachs that can be retrofitted into the dash? I'm sure one of those 5'' tachs are way too f'in huge.

Why not just get a shift light?

Raptor shift light is the best mod I have done in a long time. I like being able to see the light go off even with my full face helmet on during the day. It's not too bright at night. No more looking at the tach when rowing gears.

I hate how slow the factory guage is. I will be investing in a shift light. I cant stand looking down at the tach while racing.

Definately!

As far as the topic though there are a couple of guys who complete redid their gauge cluster with aftermarket gauges.

They looked DAMN nice as far as I am concerned.

Sorry i know this isn't helpful at all. But why bother? Can't you tell by the sound? When i'm going down the 1320 i never look at my tac. Once you've hit the limiter a few time you can usually tell right before you hit it and shift...

Aren't you supposed to shift after the rev limiter hits?

Yeah your definately right though about shifting via sound, best of the best if you can pull it off.

It would be nicer though if the stock tach would work more quickly.

I have a RED Raptor, and it's great. Easy hook up and you'll never have to take your eyes off the road to look at a slow *** tach again.

You would rather not hit the rev limiter. It is extremely hard on the engine going from full load to cutting out. Good way to bend pushrods.

I would absolutely love to do that. Would autometer type gages plug right in or would there have to be some sort of modifications made?

You didn't think I was actually being serious did you?

The worst part about accidently hitting the rev limiter is the horrible/embarrassing sound it makes. You can fix bent pushrods but you can fix broken pride.

+1

bouncing rev limiter=bye bye nice and straight pushrods

Man, sometimes I have have hit the rev limiter so bad it makes me feel sick to my stomach whats going on with my pushrods, then I say to myself "Thank God I dont have stock pushrods or they would be toast."

I put a 3 3/4" tach on the column. Have a shift light as well.

I don't care much for the 5" monster sitting on the dash either. Not to mention it calls out to the scum, "break my window and steal me".
