Default A Question about wires and wiring to power qtp qtec cutout

Hey, Got my QTP 3" cutout welded up yesterday,

. perfect spot just under the r.r. passenger seat, just like everyone said....

. wired it up through the drainplug, and replaced the plug...

. ran the wires along the passenger side floorboards, up around underneath the glovebox area, and through the console (underneath the radio/ac area) and the connection came out around by the shift ****.....

here's where i ran into trouble...

I followed the advice on here, and said that the hot (red?) wire could be run to the fuse-box for power... or also the pink wire that goes to the Traction Control button...

my first option was to run it to the fuzes rather than start slashing power to my traction control... so i opted to put it in the "gauges" fuse...

Now before you rip me apart, I'm not an electrician, and im about retarded when it comes to wiring/power.

heres how I tried it.....

wire comes all the way from cutout motor to the button assembly.

I stripped some of the jacketing off the red wire.
removed the gauges fuse, and tried it with wrapped both legs of the fuse, and then again with only on one leg..

re-insert the fuse with wire attached and started the car.... button doesnt light up, and button does nothing when moved.....

Now i didnt have the black (ground?) attached to anything at the time... but i didnt think that would make a difference....

I'm pretty challenged in the electronics department, and everything i googled/searched on ls1tech.com for was excellent up until this point... (there is an awesome writeup on the stealthram website that helped me tremendously...

if someone could give me a decent explanation of where to go from here, i would be extremely grateful... would love to have this sucker up and running for friday night (tonight!)

thanks in advance..

Since you're already at the fuse box, here's how I wired mine. Red wire to one leg of the radio fuse for power, black wire to ground (used the black wire off the cig lighter). QTP switch light stays on until door is opened, goes off with the radio, etc. You don't need to "wrap" both legs of whatever fuse you use.

ok... thats pretty much what i tried last night... and no luck... would not having the ground connected to someting make it not work though?

i know i had the red wire on one leg of the radio fuse at one point... and still got no love from the cutout... (just didnt have the black wire going anywhere)

and the red wire is just going around the leg of the radio fuse, and stuffing the fuse back in right?

im really retarded when it comes to electrical/wiring stuff.

Yes sir, you need the black wire connected to a good ground.

Yea, sounds just like a ground problem.

Awesome! thanks guys.. got it all wired up and working..

Now that its all up, I'll take some pictures and do a "by the numbers" writeup for other electrically challenged people like me =-)

thanks again fellas.

oh.. ... but after i got it on.. took it for a cruise.. and two-thumbs up!... im probably going to get another and put it at the adjustable plate on my borla.... from practically stock muffled to wide open, and anywhere inbetween.. (at least i hope so)

I personally ran a cheap turn-down on my car and I noticed a slight decrease in inside cabin noise. It wasn't really worth it so I just took it off since it was scraping once in a while.

I've got a turndown that I had on my WS6 if anybody wants it. Made it alot quieter in the car. Still loud as hell outside though
