Default New best with the trusty old D1SC today..

Ran a pair of 9.17s @ 148 or so with the D1SC and the 3.4 pulley today, thats the good news.

Bad news its pushing over a quart of water on a pass and it has new headgaskets. Had the heads checked to make sure they were flat and they were supposedly OK. I was using C16, had the timing down to 14 degrees, 3911 plugs, A/F at 11.2:1, IATs were under 150 (you can see the black smoke on the first pass) and its still pushing water bad at 17.5 psi There should be no reason for detonation at all with 14 degrees of timing and C16 with sub 150 IATs.

Since I ran the car for a almost 100 passes @ 15psi with one set of gaskets, second set lasted 30 passes and the third lasted 2 passes I would most likley say the heads and/or deck is warped pretty bad. Dont really want to mill these heads any amount, compression is up there enough already.

Kind of a pisser really, I changed some suspension stuff and got the 60's down a little more and even put the headlight motors and wipers back in the car. Planned on making a couple passes on the D1 and swapping the F1A on at the track and getting my 8 second pass but there was so much water under the hood every pass (overflow bottle only holds a quart and it was spraying out the vent in the top of it) I didnt want to take a chance with a couple more PSI.

I may try a different set of heads to drop the compression a little and a little larger cam, really dont want to invest a lot of money in a 346 at this point though. Might just use my crank and rods and stick them in a LS2 block and find the thickest deck heads out there and try again. Cant really complain too much I guess, except driving almost 700 miles again to make 2 passes, been a good setup but I think I can say I about got all I possibly could out of it..

Two passes from today, not much drama now that I got the front end to stay down better, my wife didnt wait for the clocks to come on, frirst pass was a 9.176 @ 147.6 off the foot brake and the second was 9.171 @ 148.2 off the trans brake with the 2 step at 3000:

Really wanted to get an eight in the 346 but it looks like that isnt going to happen, I was hoping to at least run it at 14-15psi for a while and piece together another engine.

Maybe I fogot to tighten the head studs on one side or something lol, it is really blowing water out bad..

you should try a new set of heads and see if thats the problem, i know its not as easy as it sounds, 8's on the 346 with the D1 is heaven in my book, lol

I could do it I think with the D1SC, the tune is very soft now. I hate to invest 2500 on a set of heads just to see if that works..

Get a set of new used 317's for cheap and TNT with those....won't cost but a dime and some time...

It'd be great to see the D1 get you a 8.

I'm at 9.5:1 right now with the 62cc heads.

Heh, unlike a lot of people I ENCOURAGE people to run faster then me and I am really happy when I see people run as well or better with a similar combo, thats why every single part on this car and what I did is on my web page. Trust me if I can build ths whole car in my garage with hand tools (and a TIG welder ) then anyone should be able to.

I would think the darts would be better but then again I had 176 trouble free passes on stock graphite gaskets and 98 heads with around 15psi so you never know. The graphite gaskets were pretty beat up but it never pushed any water at all with them.

I'm asking a lot out a little factory aluminum block though I guess, its probably about as square as a soccar ball after what I put it through lol.

I was looking for 9.5:1 also, but id like to stay on pump 93 as much as possible, so i guess i gotta go lower. I was thinking betwen 8.8 and 9.2 somewhere. Iron block with im not sure what heads yet. Kinda at a brick wall trying to decide on a compression ratio and a head.

Incredible ets and mph is off the chart for a little old 346 with a D1SC blower and still a 01 Z06 cam (right)? Are you still running the DART 225 heads on this bad boy. If yes, why not just buy another pair from summit for $1,650 and then you would be good to for a while again. Or how about the 225 PATRIOTs LQ9 72cc blower heads and turn up the boost a notch or so for a nice budget $1,200 head that shoud last for a season or two one would hope!

You have RAISED the bar REALLY high for a ATI D1SC small cubed motor and sorry to here about the mechanical issues but it certainly will come with the territory you are in the thick of the way you DRAG Race that Rocket Ship!!

BEST OF LUCK and you are doing us small cubed D1SC guys WAY PROUD BRO!!

No way this would would run what it does on pump gas, I can run pretty reliably in the 9.7-9.8 range on 93. IATs are the killer, with an A2W I could probably get below 9.40s on 93 - maybe Meth would be a different story..

The bigger bore would be a little more prone to detonation so 8.8 to 9:1 would be a good start..

I swapped out the LS6 cam a while back, it has a comp 222/228 115 .550 lift XE cam in it now. I was thinking about just throwing a new set of darts on but I'd like to drop the compression a little and go with a bigger cam and the springs on the darts are just singles. I dont mind spending the money on a set of AFRs or All pros if it helps the situation.

But yea, I beat the **** out of this thing a couple times a month year round, my old high 8 second big block cars would need some freshining up once a year too. Just looking at the decks on the heads is really amazing they take as much abuse as they do, there is really nothing there..
