The front opening of your stock lower air box is much larger than a non-ram air lower air box.
The thick, black piece of weatherstripping SLP supplies with the kit closes off that front opening on non-ram air cars.
If you put that weatherstripping on the front of your air box it won't seal because the opening is too large, negating the point of buying the CAI.

SLP was responsible at one point for outfitting cars with ram air hoods so from a marketting perspective, probably not a good idea for them to say the hoods don't work (even though they don't).
For the FTRA, we recommend you seal of the front of the intake regardless of the hood you have. That will give you the best performance.

HHmmm,...never heard anyone say that before but I guess it makes sense. I'd give em a call and ask also. Ask for Art. He's been with them forever and can give a good explination on that aswell.
......If you have a WS.6 hood tho ....do what I did. Cut those damn rain deflectors out and install your own funnel in the section that leads into the air box. Materials cost me arround 10 bucks. Actually my default pic in the sig shows what I did too. U can see the funnel in the pic....STRAIGHT INTO THE AIR BOX!!!

i agree with FastToys, i don't think that the don't want to admit that their hoods don't do that much.

SS's do not have a raised airbox. Only the WS6 cars do. Regarless, none of the "ram air" equipped hoods have ever been able to prove any kind of performance gain at the track.
