Holden Performance - Holden thermostat and fan settings?

Just because I'm curious :)

What is the official rating of the LS1 Holden thermostat?

What are the fan settings? I know for sure they are lower than the North American F-Bodies... who knows why?

cant remember the thermostat temp but the fans turn on at 98.5 degrees C (low speed) and turn off again at 93 degrees C. high speed comes on at 108 degrees i think. why is probably just the humidity and heat.

Yep... those are the values I have in mind.
In my case (98 trans Am) they come on @ 109.4 and off @ 105.5C (low speed).
In winter the thermo keeps a constant temperature of 90C while moving, then when I'm in traffic the coolant makes a jump to an average of 107.4C.

As our cars don't have a temperature regulator for the interior I have to go up und down myself with the temperature knob...

My thermostat starts to open at 90C too.
I have to set the 1st fan to come on at 101C and off at 97C or the fan won't stop to turn (while cruising in summer I have a constant 96C on the highway).
High speed is set at 106 on and 102 off.

Maybe the stock F-Body radiator is smaller than yours?
Is it bad to have the low speed fan on all the time?

i have fan 1 come on at 93 and off at 91. The duty cycle is fairly low on mine even in and australian summer. Remember also that fan 1 is turned off above just over 45 km/h

Maybe in the UK it's possible. Elsewhere (hotter climates) you haven't got a hope unless you increase the size of the radiator.

Ahh actually Ringram is spot on. I've had similar experiences myself. Australian spec LS1's run a far more effeciant radiator to the US guys. My car will maintain under 95c in traffic with an ambient temp of 40c. I had this experience the other week. Even with a 160f thermostat you'd be surprised how well temp can be maintained.

Aus spec radiator is the same pn as the Middle East Lumina SS and Pontiac GTO (Info from Calsonic Kansei) who are o.e. suppliers to Holden).
Where do you get your info from?

"Ringram" is no doubt spot on for the UK climate and I do not doubt his info which will be relevant for there and any temperate climate that sees temps and atmo pressures similar to the UK.

If you ran your car here through a summer you'd undertstand a little better: All a lower thermostat does, such as a 160f is slow down the time it takes to get the engine (increased emissions and cylinder wear) to the eventual operating temperature which then turns out to be no different to the operating temperature on the same car in the same climatic conditions when fitted with either a 170f or even a 190f stat (all been tried and logged) because the car's cooling system isn't good enough (radiator not large enough)for any 'stat to actually control the temps in hot conditions. If you ran your car for long enough in these conditions in stop/go traffic it would go over 100c regardless of fan settings.

In the desert where it's a little different, .........things are a little different.
