Default Gauge's going crazy??

What can make the gauges go crazy like when switching the car on the speedo and tach max out.And then go back to zero and the other gauges do the same. Then after the car cranks up they take a second to get to normal.I have checked all the grounds and the battery and everything seems normal. It all started when I put in another engine but it seems to run fine. One thing that bothers me is the trip meter keeps resetting to zero.

anyone?? thxs.......

something has to be shorting out(or wires mixed or something)...as that explains why it is resetting the trip meter...its hitting a switch. check all the wiring and make sure everything is going where its supposed to.

the gauge cluster wouldn't make the car run funny...it just reads the car.
