Default Speed Density tuning?

What are your thoughts on speed density tuning. Getting my new motor tuned monday at G-Force. Will it gain me more power and driveability? Tell me your thoughts guys. Thanks!

I'd like to know this as well. I've heard everything from "its just as driveable as a MAF tune" to "you don't want SD unless its a track only car". Then I've heard everything from "you'll only gain about 5 hp" to "SD tuning is da bomb". I honestly don't know what to believe.

It does seem that the cars putting down the highest numbers are using SD.

Two cars with the same setups, one MAF, one SD, side by side, properly/equally tuned should have negilble power difference.

Will the SD help better with big cam cars?

Sorry, but that's an excuse in my book. A real time tuning solution will reveal the true sampling nature of the GM PCM architecture and allow a competent tuner to take advantage of the situation.

SD will make for a much more streetable MONSTER cam. Most people don't have those. Most N/A cars don't need it. However, most FI cars max the maf, so they DO need SD.

Thats what I was thinking. My 250 255 640 640 112 would benefit from a SD tune. Thanks! Plus mine being a A4 won`t help any! Thanks!

If you are trying to run a cam that size, you should really call some of the pro sponsors. Unless you have a really high stall, that will be "FUN" to tune.

Did, they built me the motor and all. The stall is set up for spray. Custom built for my motor. Thanks!

You can also run alpha-n fueling with an efi tune around idle and low rpm for max driveability and switch to sd as rpm increases.

I tuned my car both with MAF and SD no peak power difference at all. Drive-ability on the street SD was much better with my combo. In your case I would say that your best bet would to go with a SD tune for drive-ability purposes.

Didnt say a SD tune would help YOUR car or cam. I wonder, how many big cam cars you've tuned?
The question was would it HELP. not IS IT REQUIRED.
AS far as FI. Again, SD HELPS. BUT, again ITS NOT REQUIRED. What was everybody doing before the 2 bar craze? Skewin the MAF, and loadin up the PE.

And again ,I'll say, its not required. For most the diff would be nil.
And really, there was SD before MAF anyway. All the stand alones are SD.
Do you advocate MAF tuning solely?

Agreed completely. Its not a requirement. People have been tuning around mafs (FI) forever. It can be done. Have done it personally many many times.

How do you know you havnt max'd the maf out anyway dude?
You could just be fueling off the PE table at the max airflow your maf reads.

Show us the logs with nice airflow readings from the maf then we will believe you

Otherwise Id tend to agree your maf isnt doing the fueling anymore, you are running off other tables!

What do you think the PE table is for? Exactly what it stands for , Power Enrichment. my fuel curve is flat as a board...I really don't care if you or anyone else believes me or not. I know my tune, my fueling is spot on and every other FI car I have tuned are the same..

I believe you. I've done it many times. fuel curve flat as a table. Maxed MAF around 4000 or so. like I said, tuned around the maf. Doesnt mean it works any less, or worse, or how ever you want to phrase it. theres more than one way to make this stuff work. No real right or wrong. Just different preferences.
