Default What vehicles have the LQ4 and LQ9?

I was originally going to buy an LS1 but I want to run the L92 heads and they won't fit the LS1. I can't afford an LS2 right now plus the salvage yard I'm going to buy from where my friend works gets ALLOT of new GM trucks and he says I can score a running engine with a warranty really cheap and complete which is what I need for a swap.

I'm not sure about the engine codes so please correct me if I'm wrong.

The LQ9 is the iron block version of the LS2 right? The LQ4 is the iron block version of the LS1 right?

The yard doesn't track by engine code, they only track but what the vehicle is the engine came out of. So basically I need to know exactly which engine code i'm looking for, LQ9 I think, and then find out what vehicles it came in so I know what to ask for when I go to the salvage yard.

Thanks!

Ok, I called and they have a 100% complete, tested and warrantied, LQ4 for $1,400. Is that a fair price?

Then I'm looking at a set of L92 heads with an L72 intake with a nice cam to match. Looks like I'll also need new pistons because the LQ4 is the low compression version of the LQ9 and from the looks of it the only difference is the pistons from what I can find online.

yes that is a fair price. IMO i wouldnt worry about switching the pistons out.. just put L92s on it and rock it as/is and settle for close to 500rwhp

Hmm, what could the cr be with L92 heads and the stock LQ4 pistons do you know?

Since I'm on a buget right now, as little as possible lol, I could keep the engine as is with only L92 heads, L76 intake, and a cam. Then over the winter take it to a 402ci and worry about my cr then. That almost sounds like a plan. Plus the engine comes with an awesome warranty, I may as well run it as is until I can afford to rebuild it.

toss the warranty in the garbage if you remove the intake, heads, and everything else.. they wont warranty a modded engine..

if you are putting into your third gen, put it in like it sits... get it running.. and then switch everything in car.

Yeah, you guys are right. When I get it I'll just install it as is and make sure everything is working, especially since it has a warranty. Because it is going into a thirdgen there are a few other things I'll need special like a custom harness and a tubular k-member with LS motor mouts. I guess I'll go ahead and smog it too while I'm at it. Then this winter I'll do the heads/intake/cam.

4L60's bolt up to these just like the LS1/LS6 did right? I'm also going to need to track down a TV cable bracket for my 4L60 because it's a non-E and I have WAY too much money in it to just give it up, lol.

Thanks!

About 9.2:1 with stock stuff, LQ4's have the dish pistons. You could angle mill the heads and use flatops out of an LQ9 to bring up compression on the cheap. I'm going forced induction so the big cc chambers are good for me. I'm also using SRP 16cc dish pistons to bring it down to 9.0:1
