Default Drag Radials or Slicks on stock rear?

My car is a stock 01 Hawk M6. If I put some slicks or D/R on it at the track, will that hurt/grenade the rear end??

Sorry, I noticed this should be in the "rear end/axles" section.
Newbie mistake.

It's a roll of the dice. Some people go 11's on a stock rear and others break them with 300 rwhp. Try it and see, you might be lucky.....

I probably wouldnt do it unless you have the money for a new rear, DR's are much easier on a auto car's 10bolt than an M6.

Radials although that will kill the rear as well. Even with a 12 bolt since you have a M6 look at tires with a stiffer sidewall for racing. I'm sure a mod will come in and move this for ya!

Yes, my clutch is stock as well, the car has 56K on it. I know the clutch will prob give up sooner than later, although it feels great so far, nice, tight, crisp.

BUT the rear is something I don't want to break all because i put some sticky tires, launched it at the track and boom.

Should I just save for a 9 inch with 4:10's first and then add an LS7 clutch.
Somewhat work my way backward up the driveline then add some more HP for reliability and daily driver(summer) sake?

Hmmm...stock clutch too? Slicks, stock clutch, and stock rear end. Something will break soon enough.

You're playing with fire when you launch on STREET tires with a 10 bolt. That should answer your question.

Not if but when. Stock clutch and stock rear? That is a parts carnage waiting to happen. I would guess stock driveshaft and no loop too.

i tried drag radials on my car once but the stock clutch wouldnt hold, it didnt brake, it just slipped through first and smelled up the car something fierce, as soon as I released my foot off the clutch and floored the gas I could feel the clutch slip and i even noticed the clutch pedal not coming up all the way. When I used street tires teh clutch would work just fine but i would spin the tires and get some god awful 60' times

I watched my friend Do a 2500K drop on some nitto's in a 2002 M6 Z28 with a cat-back and a lid. He got the nitto's alittle sticky and had a great R/T....When he launched the clutch made contact and the rear exploded. 10 teeth off the ring gear and a crack through the posi. So he changed out the 10 bolt for another one and tryed it again. Stock clutch now goes to the rev limiter with more than 75% throttle. It's worth your tires spinning if you dont have the money to hook.

I invested in a performance clutch and a 9". No More worries

I personally think you will be fine with DR's on a stock clutch. Especially if you havent done the drill mod. Just dont do clutch dumps. And whoever said you will brake the rear with street tires is dead wrong. But when you upgrade your clutch, just dont be like me and get the LS7 then be wanting to throw slicks on the car and find out the LS7 cant really hold it.
