Stereo & Electronics - My system design, finally pretty much finished

So I've got the stuff ordered now. Here's what's going in my car:

HU: Pioneer DEH-P80RS (same thing as P880PRS)
Front speakers: Dayton RS180-4/Vifa XT25SC50 custom
Front amp: Pioneer PRS-D4000F, will give me 4x75WRMS at 4 ohms
Sub: Eclipse SW8200 12"
Sub box: Custom fiberglass, but I probably won't make it for a month or two due to the cold
Sub amp: Planet Audio P1250D (only gives me 400W at the 4 ohms of the sub, so I might upgrade later -- this is being reused from my last setup)

The sub is meant for a much larger box and has a large hump at around 65Hz, so I will be using a Linkwitz Transform circuit to modify the response to simulate a 21Hz Q=0.707 enclosure. If anyone is interested in an LT circuit, let me know and I can help you out. Lots of Xmax and power required.

All new wiring will be run for the speakers (12 gauge, I got 250' of it for like $45 shipped from CMT Trading), and the stock speakers other than the front, as well as the stock Monsoon amp will be left in but disconnected.

As far as damping, I think I might use Grace Ultra. It's from the same company as Ice and Water Shield but it's butyl based. But I'm not sure yet. It's either Grace Ultra, Second Skin or RAAMMat (currently in that order).

Suggestions are welcome, nothing's installed yet.

I sure will, once I start installing. Not sure when that'll be, I'm in New England and I'm weak to the cold.

Rofl, don't take too long. You don't want us to forget. :)

Well fiberglassing sucks too in the cold and I think I'm also going to be using some Spectrum Sludge. Gonna take forever to do if it's cold out. Really depends on when it starts warming up and how rainy it gets towards the spring.

But hey, I'll do what I can. I'm anxious to get the stuff installed anyway! :)

Rofl, yes, I know what you mean. Warm the car up, work inside the car. I'm sure you can do some stuff while your waiting for the weather to heat up.

My stuff should be in early next week, I hope! Supposed to warm up a lot (high 40s to low 50s, as opposed to 20s) and perhaps I can get started.

I've read A LOT of people's complaints about the 880PRS having ground problems. There is a fix for it, but I can't remember what it was. I almost got the 880, but decided to get the 7800 instead :)

System should sound very nice! Those RS180s are beefy little midbass monsters for how much money they cost. I had the RS150s in my sail panels for a while, but replaced them with Rainbows :)

Also to save yourself on the Linkitz circuit, why not just use an active setup for the bass? :P It will be a lot easier I think and do the same thing. Other than that you should have a great sounding system. I bet that sub will definately want some more power down the road hehe.

If you do go with a big amp for the sub, I'd recommend getting an alternator from excessive amperage. I have a 200 EA alternator and it works PERFECT. I was testing it out when I got it and saw it peak a couple times at OVER 100 amps at IDLE! Damn thing is a monster.

For now, I'm going with a stock AD244 alt from a truck, 145A. If it needs to be rewound for even more, I'll have that done.

As for the ground problems, I've heard of them, and they seem to be due to a fuse inside the deck. Hopefully it won't be a problem for mine, but people say grounding the RCA negatives to the deck chassis helps if you do blow the fuse inside.

As for the Linkwitz circuit, an equalizer can do some of what it can do, but I'd rather just do it the right way. I can build the circuit myself and it's really quite cheap, so I'm not worried about it. Besides, I'd need a 1/6 octave or a parametric EQ to do it, and for a good quality one... $$

Pics requested in another thread. Sub, mids, tweets, mid/tweet amp, parts for linkwitz transform circuit, 12 gauge wire. Sub amp is in one of my old cars right now, and hopefully my HU and alternator will arrive early next week.

I know the first pic kinda sucks, but I don't feel like retaking it. As the sub, it's a freakin beast, I can't wait to get it going.

woot, Let's see some more progress. Damn, how did I miss this. :bang:
