Default 4L60e to 80's chevy T-case

a friend is putting an LS truck engine(I think a 5.3L/4L60e) into an 84 or 85 chevy diesel truck (why he's not doing a cummins 4BT I don't know) anyway, the trans is a 2wd tailshaft and it's going into a 4x4 truck. anyone know if there's a different trans output shaft/T-case input shaft needed? or if an adapter is needed to mate the T-case to the trans?

have to change the output shaft to a 4wd shaft. Depends on what case it's going on from the 80's it will either be np 203 full time, 208, 205. Since it's a 4l60e it will have a 27 spline output shaft. The 3/4 one ton version's with a will have a 32 spline output shaft so if you have a 3/4 or one ton case you will have to change the input shaft on the case to run a 4l60e

I'm doing the same thing but I used 6.0 w4l60 allwheel drive . the only thing I had to do is remove the allwheel drive TC and put my np208 and bolt on. The only thing that I have a problem is that VSS is on the allwheel drive tc dont know any thing about that i need info on that problem.

It seems to me that some of the 4X4 drive train suppliers make adapters that allow the use of a 2wd tranny without having to change the output shaft. It may take some searching to find them. I think most prefer to stick with the 4X4 trannies.

All you need to do is take the extension housing off of your 208 and yank all of the speedometer gears etc out and order you a reluctor ring and vss sender for any 89-mid 92 suburban or k5 blzer they had electric speedos from the factory. I have a couple of electric cluster's if you want to convert over from a cable. But yeah since your truck is a halfton all you have to do is change the output shaft.
