Default remote key fob problem, need help....

I bought a 2001 Z28 Convert and the remote I got with it has never worked. I thought the battery was dead in the remote. But, last night, I put in a battery from another remote that works from my wifes Denali, and still nothing. I also tried the reprograming instructions that I had and that didnt work either. Do these remotes just break sometimes? The remote I got with the car is FCC ID #AB01502T. Seems to be the right remote. Anyone have an idea on this ?

That's the right remote - installuniversity.com has programing instructions, if you followed them maybe it's just bad - dropped, went through a washing machine somewhere along the line, etc. Try pressing the lock and unlock buttons down simultaneously for a few seconds, should cycle the locks and flash the parking lights.

Yeah, I tried that and no luck. Is it possible that its not the remote? Could it be the computer ? Or is that not likley ?

if you want to know if it works take it to a dealer. they have a machine they test it against.

Don't buy a new one from the dealer whatever you do. They have identical ones on Ebay for next to nothing. I've bought them for two other GM cars including my old 96RS with great results.

I took my car to the dealer and a fellow F-body owner reprogramed by key fob.

Don't forget to take it apart and clean the contacts under the buttons. They can get dirty and sticky and quit working.

The one I use was purchased from Ebay. Works real good and didn't cost much.
