The sanding off the paint was the hardest by far. All those little spaces make it hard on a guy with big hands like myself. I used a 240 grit sanding pad then to finish it up used 220 grit to get all the small spaces. Then hung it up and used blue painters tape to cover up with O2 hole..the end of the headers and the ports. Right now ive given it about 2 coats and im letting it dry then im about to put on probably 4 more coats. They actually look better. For paint, I used, Dupli-color High Heat w/ ceramic. It advertises up to 1200*, so we will see if that is true. 1 header has taking about 2 hours, but im taking my time trying to do it right. Let me know what you think. Thanks guys.

I think you should ahve gotten a ceramic coating from the get go

i agree. with the time it takes to do it and money you spend on supplies, you could have had ceramic coated headers that would have lasted longer and worked better. how come you got painted? best of luck.

it just rusts too after a few years or i know atleast pacesetters do

but it rusts slower and holds in heat a lot better than any paint is going to do, even when it gets rusty.

I spend maybe 10 bucks on suplies. Ceramic coated headers were around 50 dollars more. Im not trying to be cheap, I just got what didnt take 3 weeks to get. Jegs didnt have it at there store nor did they have it at the warehouse which shocked me. But, I have feeling this will work pretty well. That gillbort fella or w.e. his username is did the same thing and he said its held up perfectly for like 4 years. I took my time and I am putting on several coats so I have a feeling this will work how I want it too. Thanks for the input guys.

Even over time and esp for the rainy/snowy areas SS will too.

It's called Stain-less steel not stain proof. In better conditions and treatment they both will last a very long time, stainless steel coated lasting the longest.

But with as other people have said the coatings will probbly last longer then painting, either way your car do your own thing and it sounds like you are atleast head painting them correctly.

That's cool that you are painting them. Don't worry I got a lot of people who ragged on me for painting mine too but they are holding up just fine. I was in the same boat as you, super impatient and I wanted to be different. That and I saw a buddy of mine's coated pacesetters that still started rusting after less than a year and didn't see a need to spend $70 more for something with no real benefit other than looks. Anyways, good choice keep us posted and take some pics after you finish them up.
