A tune is always a good way to get more consistant operation however wether you will require a tune is hard to say , We have several customers running our trans and converter combos with our 3500 with the stock tune and no issues

To optimize the converter and tranny, a tune is a good idea. You can completely change the way that it acts. Change lock-up, shift points, shift firmness, line pressures, and these are the simple things that can make a big difference.
