I am wondering the same thing. I was thinking about a TSP 370 with the L92/L76 combo and a 228 or 230 ish cam.

For about a grand for heads I am trying to build an engine around the L92 heads.

Spend the extra 600 or so and go with the 408.

would it really be worth it?

What drawbacks are there to L92 heads. I know you need new rocker arms, but $140 isnt bad for stock L92 arms. Do you have to block off any DOD stuff?

Am i going to have to pretty much abandon everything from my 98 LS1 and start over with all new stuff, like balancer, lifter holders, valley pan, sensors, and all kinds of other stuff?

I hope im not hijacking this thread.

I checked it out, but 16 pages of nothing but people asking questions is hard to navigate through. I was just hoping that someone could answer my questions with a simple yes or no here and there. The search feature doesnt turn up that much, or at least it didnt for me.

So are you looking to go 6.0L iron block or the LS2 block? The L92 heads will bolt on without issues to either. One thing to be aware of is that for those big intake runners, you'll need more air coming in to excite that runner. You can do that by spinning the engine higher RPM's (build the bottom end correctly and it's very do-able) or by adding some more cubic inches. Like stated, for a little more $$, most would agree that the 408ci powerplant will be a blast over a stock 6.0L! You will need to use regular LS series lifters, trays, etc for your build. Since you're only using the L92 heads, you won't have to deal with the active fuel management (AKA: DOD). I think that covers most of your questions, but feel free to PM, e-mail, or call me if I can help you with anything else! We also have a wide selection of built shortblocks available that are custom built to your needs!

Matt

I'm working on an iron block forged 364 now. The heads are an easy swap from your 317's. However, you will need a 4.060 head gasket to clear the combustion chamber. Other than that the same 6.0L head replacement steps apply to the L76's. The valves are big but they clear a 6.0L bore. Valve shrouding on a 4.00 bore might limit CFM flow but how much is anybody’s guess until someone flow tests them on a 4.00 bore. They flow 330 ish on a 4.030 so I would think .015" wouldn't change the flow that much. I'm going to install a Comp 220/228 .601/.613 on a 112LSA for starters and DYNO the motor NA vs. FI as well as check the flow of the heads on a 4.00" bore when the valves are finished.

As far as cam choices go I bet a 11:1 6.0L would respond very well to a short duration high lift split say 224/232 .632 .643 on a 112 LSA ground on Comp LSK lobes.

Get with Matt at SDPC for any L76 parts, he’s a great dude and if by chance you find yourself in Lubbock TX swing by and he will give you a guided tour!

Frank

Im doing a 370 with the l92/l76 setup as well and would like to hear what everyone else thinks about the questions already asked. My compression will be around 12.1.1 and im trying to find a custom grind cam to suit the amount of nitrous im going to throw at it. It wont be a daily driver so i want something ratical.

Theres a good write up in Car Craft for April and May for a 6.0L and L92 heads compared to the stock heads with a mild "Hot Cam" and then a Comp 281HR. All tests were done with a stock LQ4 6.0L longblock .

Those are pretty good numbers for a 9.4:1 motor...

Yeah i am definately going with a 408 one day. 400 ft/lbs of torque at 2200 rpm is kinda impressive. Wow...
