Default I know this is an imature question but..

My car has 285/45/17s on it right now by GeForce I beleive, something like that, Im not looking at the car right now, but the rubber is VERY hard. When I do a burnout trying to smoke the tires, I barley get any smoke at all unless I ROAST them. They make no noise either. I am looking for some tires, 295s about, maybe bigger, money isnt really a big deal, but I want some tires that have TRACTION. The tires I have now dont track too well, thx to the hard rubber.

What are some tires that track real well? I dont care if when I roast them they make big screeching noise and tons of smoke, altho it would be nice. Any suggestions? I have 9 inchwide 17s with a slight offset that pushes them out a tad

You sure on the 285/45/17? 285/40/17 is the absolute largest you should go on a 9" wheel, some run bigger but its a waste IMO. You won't use the whole contact patch and have a bulging side wall. Get some drag radials if you want traction, which kind depends on how much power you make.

i wouldnt stretch a 295 on a 9" wide wheel.. maybe a 9.5" wide.. but it will still mushroom over..

stick with 275/40/17.. its a common size and will cost a lot less

Run some 275/40R17 BFG drag radials in the back. They'll look wide enough for you. They also hook a lot better than an other 275...well except for the Mickey Thompson drag radials...which are also bad *** looking.

Either one will smoke quite a bit as well too...don't know about noise though.

this is a pretty dumb thread... but anyways... A 285-45-17 is way too damn tall. It is also the widest yu should ever go on a 9" wheel. I have 275s on a 9.5" wheel. 275-40 is a very common tire size. They are cheaper too. If youre looking for width, go with a 275 or even maybe a 285-40 Goodyear GSD3. They run wide.

I would love to run drag radials but lets face the facts, they dont work in water, and in Hawaii, it rains. anyone have any experiance with those zr1 rims that are 11 wide in the back and 9.5 in the front? id love to run 285 in the front and like 315 in the back. i know its a dumb thread. i just want some tires that track REAL well ya know? also anyone know how wide 2002 c6 rims are? the 18s

2002? C6s started in 2005... stock the 18s on a regular C6 are 8.5" wide up front with 19x10s in the rear, I could be wrong. The C6 Z06 has 18x9.5s" up front and 19x12s in the rear.

The wider the tire, the worse the manners will be on the highway, and the more chance youll have to hydroplane.

im sorry I accidently hit 6 instead of 5

i know the wider the tire the worse it will be, the 285s are nuts, anyhow, i wanna go 285/40/17 for my next set in the front, but what do you guys say for reallly nice wet weather/performance tires?

285/40ZR17 tires by manufacturer specifications do not fit 9" wheels.

Totally unnessary to have a 285 series tire up front unless you are a big tire road racer.

275/40ZR17 tires are just fine up front.

The difference between a 275 and a 285 is so minimal...I don't understand the reasoning. Don't be comparing a 285 GS-D3 to a 275 555R because they aren't the same tire and one runs large and one runs narrow.

This year my street wheels/tires are going to be black ZR1s, 17x9(9.5? whatever) with 275/40R17 Firestone Firehawk SZ250's and 17x11 with 315/35R17 BFG D/R's. The wide wheels are really just for looks, and I went with the BFGs to try and retain some kind of traction on the street.

Like I said, just go out and buy a pair of 275/40R17 BFG D/R's. You won't be upset. The 255/50R16s on my buddy's '91 look huge, espcially compared to my 245/50R16 Nittos
