Default What Happens if you drive with the Gas Cap Off?

I did this a couple weeks ago, probably drove 20 miles with the cap off. What does this do to the car?

causes the SES light to come on, it causes unusual pressure to no pressure in the cas tank. Just put it back on and the SES light should go away if your SES light is on.

Shouldnt have hurt anything, u prob lost some gas due to evaporation though and if the ses was set, just pull the pcm fuse for a couple mins.

The EPA says your fuel system must pass an EVAP test. The system gets pressurized during the test, but you cause the test to fail when you leave the cap off. The EPA doesn't want gas fumes getting into the atmosphere and ruining the ozone layer. I'll bet the EPA has never been in the pits when a top fuel motor was started. They'd have a fit.

YUP, that fixed my SES problem. could be psychological, but I swear the car ran a bit rough too. Twice now I've not put the gas cap back on correctly.

Must be that getting out of bed at 4am to drive to work thing....though it's nice being home and done for the day by 2pm.

Thanks, and I hope I entertained everyone
